Oakville Public Library is pre- senting a series of free small business seminars in partnership with the Canada Revenue Agency. These seminars will be filled to the brim with important infor- mation and ample opportunity to learn about Canada Revenue Agency services available for Small Business Series at the OPL small businesses. The seminars are all free, but do require pre-reg- istration, so make sure you call the Oakville Public Library at 905-815-2044 to ensure you get a spot for the event of your choice. First up is Starting a Small Business Seminar on Thursday, Sept. 20, 6-8:30 p.m., in the Central Branch (Lakeshore Road at Navy Street) Auditorium. This seminar focuses on starting your business (record keeping, fiscal periods, accounting meth- ods); rights and obligations (payment of taxes, audits) and income and expenses. On Thursday, Oct. 7, 6-8:30 p.m., we offer a Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) Seminar in the Central Branch Auditorium. This seminar offers participants who are starting their own small business to learn how the HST works. Clarify your responsibilities for collecting and remitting the HST and get your questions answered by the Canada Revenue Agency. Payroll Information for New Employers Seminar takes place on Thursday, Oct. 14, 6-8:30 p.m., in the Central Branch Auditorium. The Canada Revenue Agency will review payroll requirements for deducting, remitting and report- ing amounts for the Canada Pension Plan, Employment Insurance and income tax in this sem- inar. An E-services for Businesses/Keeping Books and Records seminar will take place on Thursday, Oct. 21, 6-8:30 p.m., in the Navy Street Central Branch Auditorium. This will cover the services available electronical- ly from the Canada Revenue Agency and an overview of the required books and records to be kept by your small business.
