tum swings. Then trouble starts brewing. Thats kind of what has happened to us. The upcoming schedule wont make it easy for the Blades to snap out of their losing skid, either. Oakville will face the Markham Waxers tomorrow (Thursday) in Aurora (part of the Governors Showcase weekend) and then return home Friday to host the Georgetown Raiders at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex (a 7:30 p.m. start). Markham and Georgetowns combined record this year? 18-2. Jooris is viewing the difficult schedule as a positive. This could be exactly what we need, he said. We have to look at it as win-win. If we beat a top team, everyones playing great and at ease. If not, youre not expected to beat the top teams anyway. Its two tough games. NOTES: Mark Corbett and Brandon Denham had Oakvilles goals against Stouffville, scoring 1:29 apart to give the Blades a 2-0 lead before the game was six minutes old... Mark Bennett and Kyle Blaney had the Oakville tallies against Aurora... Daniel Savelli was in goal both games for Oakville... The Blades will also face the Collingwood Blues this weekend, a Sunday afternoon contest at the Governors Showcase. 9 Locations To Serve You Better! 905-849-4998 www.aireone.com 1-888-827-2665*Call Dealer for Details A+ Rating www. .com Depend on the largest Dealer in the Golden Horseshoe * Call now for details. How would you describe your coaching style? I think my coaching style has really evolved since I became married and a father. My style has probably grown to be a bit more of a swimmers coach. Trying to build relation- ships with these people, not just in terms of being their coach but in being an influence in their life. Part of the OAK program is con- tributing to really good citizens. Not everyone is going to make the national level or the Olympics, but anyone who leaves the OAK program, we want them to be good members of society. We want them to be healthy and productive and feel the benefits of swimming in Canada. Other than an excellent swimming program, we also look at character develop- ment of the athletes. What do you focus on more, technique or motivation? I still consider myself much more of a motivator. The general statistic is it takes 10 years and 10,000 hours of preparation before athletes reach their maximum potential as senior athletes. Over 10 years, thats a lot of swimming. We have to make sure that process is exciting and fun and we need to motivate them through that. To look at the longevity of an athlete through their career... they love the sport and are very motivated. But I have to cre- ate the environment that they want to get here at 5:15 in the morning. I think weve been pretty successful at doing that. I have an extremely low dropout rate as a coach. What is your ultimate career goal as a coach? You dont get much better than OAK. Other than being tied to a university, theres not much better you can do. What Im ulti- mately looking forward to is having a champi- onship team that is consistently Top 5 in the country, and every Olympic year we have someone on the Olympic team. Those are pretty big goals, but thats what were working towards. If we can have generation after gener- ation of people really enjoying their time with the club and being successful at the provincial and national levels, I think were accomplish- ing that goal. What do you think about taking over from Alex? He was a fixture here. He was very well- respected, very well-liked. And I cant say enough about the organization, how they treated their outgoing coach and how they treat their current staff. It sounds like you have some big shoes to fill. Yep, and Im absolutely up for it.
