Four years ago, former mayor Ann Mulvale found herself defending her record against three challengers includ- ing Rob Burton in the 2006 municipal election. On Tuesday night, at the first all-candi- dates debate of the 2010 municipal election, it was Mayor Burton, who found himself in the hot seat defending his record against three challengers, including Mulvale. Despite the evenings heavy rain, the meeting, which was hosted by the Oakville Chamber of Commerce, attracted more than 400 people to Glen Abbey United Church to see the mayoral candidates Burton, Mulvale, John McLaughlin and Raymond Ray square off. During the meeting, the chamber of commerce brought forward a number of questions for the candidates to discuss, beginning with how each candidate would pay the $200-million commitment Town council has made towards the new Oakville hospital.
