International Walk to School Day (iwalk) launched the Active and Safe Routes to School (ASRTS) Project. The Halton Regional Police Service is currently look- ing for volunteers to join its Victim Services Unit. The unit provides emotional support and community referrals to victims of crime and tragedy throughout the region. Candidates to the program must possess excellent communication/listening skills as well as be compassion- ate, empathetic and a have a strong desire to give back to the community. Those who apply must also: Be a minimum of 21 years of age Have a valid drivers licence Be available for a minimum of 12 volunteer hours per month Be able to make a two-year commitment Candidates are required to complete a mandatory six- week training program (three hours per week for six weeks).
