Fashion meets function at Titika Whether youre looking for a pair of yoga pants, a running jacket or just something comfortable and stylish to wear while running errands, Titika has it. The Canadian active wear clothing company was formed by Courtney Brooke and Eileen Zhang, graduates of the Fashion program at George Brown College in Toronto, and has grown to include a store in Torontos Beaches district and one right here in Oakville on beautiful Lakeshore Road East. Our goal is to make active wear fashionable enough to wear after school, getting groceries, picking your kids up from school, as well as for working out, says Brooke. Brooke and Zhang design the line in-store, affording them the opportunity to incorporate advice from the staff and customers into the new styles. We work with fast fashion, meaning we only order four or five of each piece and once its gone, we bring in some- thing new. It allows us to offer many different styles, explains Brooke. But if we find our customers asking for more of one piece, well definitely bring it back in. With so much competition in the active-wear clothing industry, its important for Titika to separate themselves from everyone else, something Brooke believes is apparent in their clothes. We dont design specifically for high-intensity activities; we design for a lifestyle, she says. Our pieces come in sizes zero to 18 because we know that everyone wants to live a healthy lifestyle. The fashion of our clothes is just as impor- tant as the functionality. The emphasis on functionality in the clothes is easy to see; with inside pockets, thumb holes, places to secure head- phone cords and MP3 players, Titika active wear doesnt let any opportunity for performance go to waste. In addition to the finer details, Titika pieces are made with all-performance materials such as Coolmax, Supplex and Lycra. Along with promoting a healthy lifestyle, Titika also makes contributions to the communities in which they have stores. Were always up for helping the community, whether its through donating a portion of our sales, clothing or gift cards. In the past, weve done campaigns for War Child and Haiti, and were wrapping up our breast cancer campaign this week, Brooke says. We want to be part of the community.
