It is time for a reminder to all of Actons citizens, but most especially the children, to be wary of any animal that is acting strangely. In the Acton area the most common carriers of the rabies virus are foxes, skunks, raccoons and bats. However almost any animal may become in- fected. Be wary of any animals that appears frightened, vicious, sick or displays any combination of these conditions. If you see any animals that you suspect may have rabies, do not approach it. Call our local animal control officer at 905-877-6235 or contact your local police service. If you or your child should be unfortunate enough to be bitten by any animal, wash the wound with soap and water and apply antiseptic. Report the incident to our Health Department at 1-866-4 HALTON. Rabies can be treated successfully in humans, with vaccines, as long as the disease is caught before symptoms begin. Once symptoms are present, rabies is fatal. Please give serious consideration to having all of your family pets vac- cinated for rabies. For peace of mind about your health and theirs.
