Acton Terry Fox Run September 17 by Jon Hurst On Sunday, September 17, the 26th annual Terry Fox Run will be held in Acton, and at run sites across Ontario, Can- ada and around the world. The challenge this year is to maintain the tremendous enthusiasm that evolved last year from the 25th anniver- sary celebrations and from tremendous press coverage of Terry and his cause. Last year the Terry Fox Foundation raised a remark- able $36 million worldwide, with $4 million from outside of Canada, and $16.7 mil- lion raised in Ontario. One of the highlights of the year was Terry becoming the first Canadian ever to be featured on a coin for circulation. Last year the Acton run site raised almost $28,000, giving us a 25 year total of $542,000 raised for cancer research. Acton continued its ongoing commitment to the Terry Fox Foundation, placing sixth in Ontario in the category of funds raised per participant. This years event will once again take place at the Acton High School track, rain or shine. The official opening is at 8a.m., but participants can arrive any time between 8a.m. and 3p.m. to run, jog, walk or cycle some or all of the 25 laps around the track. There will be a food booth on site, serving hamburgers, sausage on a bun, pop, coffee, etc. with all products donated and all proceeds added to the run day total. Terry Fox t- shirts, sweat shirts and books will also be available to pur- chase. There will also be a memory board located on site where participants can pay tribute to family members or friends who have won, lost, or are in the midst of their fight against this insidious disease. Pledge forms are available in Acton at all banks, variety stores, the Credit Union, all schools and several other locations. Terry said during his run, even if I dont finish, we need others to continue. Its got to keep going without me. On Sunday, September 17 you have an opportunity to help keep it going, for Terry.
