Well, that is what I did from July 10th until August 18th, when I received my gliding wings. My name is Warrant Officer 1st Class Aaron Smelsky and basically that was my summer; Flying in the morning and ground school in the afternoon. I didnt believe it was possible to achieve this dream of mine through the Royal Canadian Air Cadets, until a couple of years ago. It takes dedication and hard work to earn your wings however, every bit was worth it! Air Cadets is the only program to my knowledge that provides you with the opportunity to earn your wings for free. In fact, it is better than that; you actually earn a small stipend. Thats right you dont pay, you get paid to get your wings! That is definitely not the best part, though it is nice! Flying everyday and meeting new friends was the best part. If this interests you, and you are 12 to 17 years of age, then you should come out to the Acton Legion on Tuesday September 5th between 1900hrs and 2100hrs to register to join 197 Squadron. If you complete registration by the 5th, we will take you gliding on Sunday September 10th as a reward for signing up early! So come on you have nothing to lose, just to gain friends, knowledge and plenty more! Please bring your health card and birth certificate to register. Our Hostess will bring gifts and greetings, along with helpful information about your new community. The sale commences Fall Fair weekend with details available at the information booth on the fairgrounds. A Trillium grant has been applied for to fund the cost of the artificial turf required by the soccer clubs, the results of which should be announced early Novem- ber. As the momentum builds and continues, the goal of having the building in place for the January 2007 soc- cer season appears within grasp. The artists rendition of the new building, samples of the artificial turf and all drawings and details of the project will be on display at the information booth at the Acton Fall Fair, September 15,16,17. landscaping firm planting a really large tree and they crushed a water or sewer line in the process, Halton Hills would hold Monmar responsible for repairing the service. Monmar would use that homeowners deposit to pay for the repair. That responsibility to ensure all services are up to standard remains with the builder until the main- tenance agreement with the Town of Halton Hills is completed. When it ends, the town will refund the de- velopers letter of credit and the developer will refund the damage deposits to the Honeyfield homeowners. But that, Creighton says, is still many months away. New building... Continued from page 1 Continued from page 1 The Acton Seniors Recre- ation Centre will be closed on Monday, September 4 to celebrate Labour Day. This heralds the beginning of a new season at the Centre with an Open House from Monday, September 14 to Friday, September 18. We will have all our activities resuming during that week, plus a few new ones. This is your chance to drop in and have a coffee, and see what we have to offer. If you should decide to join, the membership fee is pro-rated until the end of December and will include 2007. All memberships should be paid by December 31 so snow- birds have the chance to renew before they fly off to warmer climates. We are hoping to restart the line dancing, and yoga classes, and Victor Bis- sonnette will be teaching a digital camera class starting on Tuesday, September 19 at 7p.m. It should be very in- formative. There are several evening events at the Centre now due to lack of space during the day. Our new carved wooden Seniors Centre sign will be installed on Thursday, September 7. Thanks to the talented work of Laverne Blacklock Your new newslet ter should be ready for pick-up by next week, so you will have a calendar of all the events planned for the next two months. Please pick yours up when you are in, as its one of the ways of making sure you dont miss something that might be of interest. We are still looking for ideas for a mascot; the entry box is sitting at the front desk. If your idea is selected you will receive a very nice gift basket. Help is still needed organiz- ing the second Rock-a-Thon. If you can help in any way please leave a message at the front desk, and someone will get back to you. It will be at Sobeys again, thanks to their generous support. They are very community- minded. There always seems to be something on at Sobeys in support of some worthy cause or another. There will be two rocking chairs in use through out the two days starting on Friday, Septem- ber 29 at 9a.m., finishing at 9p.m. on Saturday, Septem- ber 30. If you would like to join us, or sponsor someone please get in touch with the Centre. There will be prizes and entertainment during the Rock-a-thon. I see two mem- bers have already signed up for rocking: Catherine Hunt and Pat Frizzell. If you are interested in learning to play Bridge there will be a session at the Georgetown Seniors Centre and members of the Acton Centre are invited. It will start on Thursday, September 7 at 7p.m. More details in our new newsletter. Tickets are now available for the dinner on Friday, September 15 at 6p.m. I understand it will be every ones favourite: chicken from Swiss Chalet, local corn on the cob, and deli- cious Chudleighs Apple Blossoms. There are always door prizes and a 50/50 draw, so you might come away with a prize too as well as having spent a very pleas- ant evening. It was decided to open it up to guests, so check at the Centre if you are interested. There has been a change in the entertainment which will feature Harmoni Chords, a group of senior harmonica players. They have enter- tained on television, and at the Oakville Waterfront Festival to mention a few places. They have enter- tained here before, so were looking forward to hearing them again. This seems like a long way off, but if you are look- ing for a little sunshine in late October check out the trip to the Avon Theatre in Stratford to see South Pa- cific. The date is Thursday, October 26, and the price includes a meal. A little side note of my own today. The Acton 55 + bowling group that bowls on a Monday afternoon in Georgetown, are looking for players. Its a lot of fun, and you dont have to be a really good player to join. We are looking for fun, and exercise at the same time. Call Orville 519-853-0981 if you are interested. The Thursday Euchre group tells me Francis Ho- genbirk is the only mooner this week. There was no 50/50 win- ner this Friday. Damage deposits years away...
