HAZARDOUS MANHOLE: Workers hired by the MTO were repairing a dangerous raised manhole on Main St. S. that is believed to have caused at least three serious cycling accidents. - Rebecca Ring Photo Cycling hazard under repair By Rebecca Ring According to residents, there have been at least three cycling accidents in one week due to a raised manhole on Main St. South, Highway 7. Ambulance and police were on the scene in all three cases. According to Village Beauty Boutique owner, Kass Weideman, whose windows face the spot, one cyclist was participating in the Ride for Muscular Sclerosis when he hit the manhole. He was thrown off of his bicycle and landed sev- eral metres away, sustaining injuries. After the second ac- cident, white markings were painted around the manhole. After the third, pylons were placed around it. On Tuesday, Steed and Evans were repairing it under contract with the Min- istry of Transportation. Wellington OPP were busy with drinking and driving charges before the Labour Day weekend ar- rived. On Thursday, August 31 at about 2:28p.m. an OPP officer stopped a 2006 Weststar dump truck for speeding on Wellington Rd. 24 in Erin township.
