Acton Fall Fair Weekend September 15-16-17 Drop by his booth at the Acton Fall Fair this Saturday 1pm -5pm Top 10 submissions win a prize courtesy of Godfathers Pizza Acton Fall Fair has been growing through thick and thin since 1913 Acton Fall Fair became an independent fair in 1913 and a year later had its full status of an agricultural society when it received its first government grant. Although an arrangement had been made to alternate with Georgetown, in 1912 it was decided to hold the fair permanently in that town. This set the stage for Acton to become an inde- pendent fair and on April 3, 1913, a very enthusiastic meeting of the businessmen of the town was held in the Council Chamber to discuss the Fall Fair proposition. Mr. George Havill oc- cupied the chair. Reeve George Hynds, who was secretary when Acton ran an independent fair years before, told how it had always been carried out successfully until arrange- ments had been made with Esquesing for Acton and Georgetown to have the fair alternate two years. He gave the estimated amount necessary to be raised for a successful fair. A committee was ap- pointed to wait upon the business men and others in- terested in the proposal, to see what could be raised and the committee would report later at a general meeting, to which every citizen was invited to be present. Most of the citizens called upon had shown their approval of the project by substantial subscriptions. On April 17, 1913, at a meeting, the committee appointed to solicit sub- scriptions for the fall fair for Acton, reported they had been successful beyond the most sanguine expecta- tions of the supporters of the project. Manufacturers, business- men and citizens responded generously and the result was that a fund amply suf- ficient had been raised to warrant the establishment of an independent fall fair in Acton. Not only this, but the support had been so liberal that a most attractive prize list was assured. The name adopted was Acton Fall Fair. Various committees were appointed to proceed with details for the furtherance of affairs in connection with the fair.
