THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 21, 2006 THE NEW TANNER 11 65 babies compete in Fall Fair Baby Show The Baby Show at the Acton Fall Fair has become quite a family event Sat- urday afternoons show featured several babies and toddlers whose parents were previous winners and three babies whose older siblings were also red ribbon win- ners. In all, 65 babies, birth to 24 months, wowed the judges with their toothy grins, funny faces and winning ways; every baby was a winner, taking home a gift bag of goodies, generously donated by the Shows 72 sponsors the most ever. All of the first place finishers in each category received a trophy, red ribbon and a gift bag that also included treats for mom including a months gym membership and certificates to pamper themselves. Each second place winner received a plush toy and third place winners received a gift basket. Organizer Carolyn Bell was pleased with the turnout, down 20-odd babies from last year, and even happier and more grateful that Acton businesses continue to be so generous with prizes. For some of the contestants, winning was old hat twins Daniel and David McLelland repeated their first place win of last year. Both Tyler Lee and Olivia Wilson first place in the four-to-six-month age group, must have had some coaching from their older siblings. Dominic Lee and Rylea Wilson both took home red ribbons two years ago. In the 13-to-18 month age group, win- ner Alysha Swackhamer took home first place following in the footsteps of her aunt and namesake, Lisa Swackhammer, who won a Baby Show red ribbon 37 years ago. Jacob Hilton and his dad Billy now have something in common Jacob earned first place in the 13-to-18 month group his dad won the twin category 26 years ago. And for the Day family of Acton, the Baby Show resulted in a threepeat Em- ily won first place in the 19-to-24 month group, brother Jack won a red ribbon in the birth-to-three month group and older brother Jacob, now three, is a past red ribbon recipient. OH, BABY: Actons Brooklyn Heller and Tristan Locke, with proud moms Sandra and Shelly, used their toothy grins to win the seven-to-12 month group at the Baby Show. TODDLER TIME: Alysha Swackhamer, with mom Wendy, and Jacob Hilton with mom Karen, took home the red ribbons in the 13-to-18 month age group. TERRIFIC TWOS: Actons Emily Day, with dad Jon, and Ethan Richer with mom Danielle of Guelph, held their cool during the judging and earned first place ribbons in the 19-to-24 months category. FAMILY TRADITIONS: Winning runs in the families of both Tyler Lee, with mom Melissa (left), and Olivia Wilson, with Grandma Sandy MacDonald. They won first place ribbons in the four-to-six month age group. CHUBBY CHEEKS: Alexandria Mortier, with mom Angie (formerly of Rockwood, now of London), and Actons Jack Day, with mom Cyndy, took home first place honours in the birth-to-three month old category. Sixty-five babies entered the always popular Baby Show at the Acton Fall Fair on Saturday some won ribbons and trophies and each entrant received a gift basket containing goodies for the babies and their moms, all gener- ously donated by 72 local sponsors.
