14 THE NEW TANNER THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, 2006 Halton Hills Library & Cultural Centre marks its silver anniversary in 2006 with a nine-day celebration of the arts event Celebrat- ing Silver Going for Gold. Halton Hills Library & Cultural Centre has been the centre of cultural activ- ity in Town for the past 25 years, an ideal venue to host celebrations between Friday, October 13 and Sunday, October 22. The Anniversary Art Ex- hibition starts with The Beginning A Look Back on display in the community window at Youngs Phar- macy & Homecare, 47 Main Street South, Georgetown. Featured in the exhibit are enlarged photo materials from the construction of the Cultural Centre, the first art exhibition shows from well-known artists Frank Black, Marjorie Nazer, Robert Bateman, Ken Dan- by, Jack Reid, John Hall, Barbara Howard, Andreas Drenters and Tony Meers, and the inaugural Photo Art Show. Also on display is a costume from the George- town Globe Productions Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, programs and photographs from the Georgetown Little Theatre. Halton Hills, a communi- ty of several smaller towns, villages and rural settle- ments, has a distinctive and enviable identity whose foundation comes from the beauty and tranquility of its rural setting, rolling hills and valleys. Consistent with the rich and distinct surroundings, artists and artisans have been invited to enter one or two works for the themed art show The Many Faces of Halton Hills. Theme of the exhi- bition is Halton Hills, its people, settlements, land- scapes, valleys, its wildlife, historic buildings, road- ways and railways. Artists may submit their works on October 10 from 4 to 7p.m. at the Gallery of the Halton Hills Library and Cultural Centre to register their works. The exhibi- tion will run from October 13 to 30 in the Art Gallery and the public is welcome to visit the exhibition. All artwork will be for sale with the proceeds going directly to the artists. Arts in Motion will feature a group of Halton Hills artists and artisans live and in motion, working in their own medium. On October 21 between 10a. m. and 5p.m. the artists will demonstrate the skills associated with their art specialty and be available to provide information on how you can become more creatively involved within the community. An exciting line-up of music, theatre and artistic expression is planned that will peak the interest of residents and those in the surrounding communities. The Public is welcome to visit the 25th Anniver- sary Art Exhibition for free. Halton school trustees will more than double their current honorarium of $5,000 if they accept the recommendations from a Community Advisory Committee at a special Board meeting October 4. A change to the Education Act to modify the amount trustees get paid was made earlier this year, with the sup- porting regulation which sets out the process to be followed in determining trustee honoraria developed in July. The regulation stipulates each school board must establish a Citizens Advisory Committee to make the calculations based on the provincial formula, and then forward the recommendations to the Board for consideration. The Halton Boards Citizen Advisory Committee, com- prised of six community members, met and reviewed the regulation, the role of a trustee, and made recommenda- tions regarding what trustees should be paid. There are two components to the recommendations one dealing with trustee honoraria for those serving on the Board prior to November 30, 2006, and the second dealing with trustee honoraria for those elected to and serving the Board after December 1, 2006. For each group of trustees, the Committee looked at the base payment suggested in the regulations formula, plus payment based on student enrolment within the Halton Board. The Committee also decided whether allowances would be made for attending meeting and distances trav- elled. Recommendations include: For the period starting Sept. 1, 2006 and ending in November 2010 member would get a base amount of $5,900, an enrolment amount of $7,285.59 for a total of $13,158.59. The chair would receive $10,900 with enrolment of $9,575.35 for a total of $20,475.35 while the vice chairs total would be $16,830.47. Trustees presently serving on the Board will receive a retroactive pay increase of $8,153 in addition to their cur- rent $5,000 honoraria for a total of $13,153.
