Why not combine cards To the editor, Today I received notice I have to renew my health card. I renewed it five years ago, it has my pic- ture on i t . Somehow, renewing it is supposed to cut down fraudulent use, Ted Chudleigh`s office tells me. Meanwhi le , I know tons of people who have health cards that have never been renewed, cards that are 20/30 years old, and have no picture on them for identification. Appar- ently these are OK. If you have an old card never, never, never apply to get it renewed you will then be in the five year cycle. How do you renew it? Easy you phone for an appointment in my case it took a wait of over seven minutes to get past the auto reply. Now you have a civil servant online request a date for renewal in Georgetown. Well yes, I can get one after my card has expired. So it will have to be Guelph. Documents required the notice I received, cred- it card, passport or proof of citizenship and driv- er s l icence. I t seems my health card complete with picture just is not good enough. Of course, the way to look at this this is my money working for me. It would be so easy to in- corporate the health care and drivers licence Be easy, save $millions. But, of course, government knows what is best for me and them. John Shadbolt, Acton.
