Place items out for collection by 7:00 a.m. on the morning of collection day, but not before 5:00 p.m. the evening before. Secure your recyclables. Stack your Blue Boxes on top of one another to prevent papers from blowing away. Place heavier items on top of lighter items. Flatten and tie large cardboard boxes and place securely underneath or between your recycling boxes. Tie cardboard in bundles no larger than 30x 30x 8 (76cm x 76cm x 20cm). In one Blue Box, place loose glass bottles and jars, metal food and beverage cans, aluminum foil and pie plates, Styrofoam, plastic bottles, drinking boxes, and milk and juice cartons. In a second Blue Box place flattened corrugated cardboard, fine paper, boxboard and newspapers. Keep waste items clear of snow and visible to collect. Do not place items on top of snowbanks. POLICE/ FIRE REPORT Oil leak When Acton firefighters responded to a reported vehicle fire at 12:37 a.m. on Boxing Day, they found the smoke was coming from an engine oil leak. Police remained on scene until a tow truck called by the vehicles owner ar- rived. CO activation Rosemary Road resi- dents were told to replace their carbon monoxide detector after it repeatedly activated on Boxing Day. Ac t on f i r e f i gh t e r s checked the residence, but found no trace of CO. To the editor: Once again the Rockwood Farmers Parade of Lights was a huge success. Our14th year, and the best yet, thanks to so many volunteers and the generosity of the participants. Dec. 14 was a beautiful night which possibly was the reason for the biggest crowd to date. Once again we must thank everyone for helping put such a huge community event together. With entry by invitation only the spectators are assured that every float will be spectacular. Next year you should try and view the parade on the 4th Line or # 7 west, away from street and other competing lights. It is much bet- ter. Parade another huge success LETTERS To the editor, A delicious turkey dinner was enjoyed by approximate- ly 60 people on Christmas Day 2006 at Beth-El Christian Reformed Church in Acton. We wish to thank the church for allowing us to use their facilities for our 4th annual Community Christmas dinner. A round of applause also to the many people in our town who provided dishes for the meal that includ- ed slaw, potatoes, hams, vegetables and desserts. Pau- lette, you did a great job of organizing that! Pauline, Joan and Diane: the turkeys you cooked were delicious. We appreciated the families who came out to assist with set up, serving and clean up. Some quick thinking in the kitchen saved the day and we were able to enjoy warm turkey and eat on schedule almost! Gifts donated to the dinner by Links2Care were distributed by Jack (our carol singing director and host) and Joyce Carpenter with the as- sistance of a few volunteer elves. Thanks to all of you! Marci and Gwen, we couldnt have done it without you. You posted flyers, delivered meals and did all that was neces- sary in between to prepare. Thank you also to The New Tanner for your advertising. As always I am in dan- ger of forgetting to mention someones contribution and I apologize for that.
