Julie Conroy photo ????? ???????? ???????????????? ???????? ?????? The annual general meet- ing for the Acton Seniors Recreation Centre will be held on Tuesday, February 27 at 1p.m. Please note the time in the Tanner ad- vertisement last week was incorrect. It will start at 1p.m. prompt. Following the meeting there will be refreshments. Fifteen ladies enjoyed a tour of Actons own Supe- rior Glove. I noticed in the paper after our visit that they had been voted top business for 2006 by the Halton Hills Chamber of Commerce. I know everyone enjoyed the tour and was very impressed by the magnitude of the re- cently constructed storage area. We saw everything from gloves being knitted (one every two minutes), to gloves getting dots put on them, and some being coated in blue rubber like substance. We learned most of the gloves are made for the automobile industry. We are now planning our next trip, to Toyota in Cambridge. We will go on Tuesday, May 1 with a tour in the afternoon. If there is enough interest we might make it a full day and stop at the Wings of Para- dise and Greenway Garden Centre, which specialize in growing plants that attract butterflies. The ladies who attended the Spa retreat enjoyed get- ting their faces and feet pampered. Now they feel ready to face anything. If you have the winter blues, a great way to help lift your spirits would be to join in the fun at the Un- dertakers Ball on February 10. We have some tickets for sale at the Centre and $5 from each ticket sale can be dedicated to the charity of your choice. A great way for the Centre and other groups to raise some much needed revenue. The hikers are enjoying their hikes on Friday after- noons; now the weather is colder it makes the walking much safer. The cookery class Food for Fun will be held on Feb. 20 at 1p.m. If you are interested sign up on the appropriate sheet. There was great excite- ment at the bid euchre last Thursday. Mae Milton had a hat trick plus one (four mooners) and Shirley Hunt- er, and Francis Hogenbirk had one each. That will make up for the last couple of weeks when there werent any. Thinking of euchre , there is evening euchre on Wednesday, Feb. 21 at 7:15p.m. The next social dinner planned is a Mardi Gras. It will feature Cajun food, and tickets are on sale now. If someone is recovering from a hospital visit or needs help so they can remain at home there is a great orga- nization available provided by the four local hospitals. It is Connectcare and they will be making a presenta- tion on February 13. Even if you dont need this service at the moment, you or a friend may in the future, so come in and find out what is available The number of people participating in line dancing is dwindling, and I am afraid if we dont get more people, the class might have to be dropped. We are meeting at St Albans Church hall at the moment on a Wednesday at 1:30p.m. We have a great instructor and its lots of fun to some very catchy music. Peggy told me there was a good turn out for Car- pet Bowling. Eight people played, and Dorothy Pur- kiss Brown team beat Betty Lockerbies Black team 18-11. Some members have al- ready picked up their new February/March newsletter. If you havent got yours the person at the front desk will be happy to help you find it. They are filed by street address, then by name alphabetically. This one covers the months of Febru- ary and March, Joanne Bissonnette tells me the sale of Maple Lodge chicken was a great suc- cess and will be repeated in March. She is also busy setting up a penny sale table, and if you have any new items you would like to donate she will be happy to accept them. They should have the value of at least $10 please. A great way to re-gift some of the items you might have received, and have either no room for, or are unable to use. Now the cold weather is here it is a good time to remind you of the great lunches we serve on a Fri- day. Sometimes it is soup and sandwich, other times its a complete mystery, and the fourth week is pot luck. If you are interested you must sign up prior to the lunches so the convenors know how much food to pre- pare. You can always play shuffle board before lunch, or stay for the bingo after. The 50/50 draw was not won again this week so we are looking at the prize being over $375 by next Friday. Dont forget if you havent paid your membership for 2007 your name was pulled from the drum. We still have quite a few members who havent renewed. You must be a paid up member to vote at the A.G.M.
