Approximately 45% of the average garbage bag in Halton is made up of food scraps and other organic material that could be turned into compost. The proposed Region-wide implementation of the GreenCart program is an initiative to help achieve the 60% waste diversion goal outlined in Haltons 2006-2010 Solid Waste Management Strategy. This 60% diversion goal will assist in extending the life of our landfi ll. Slack Family FLOWERS OF HOPE: Acton branch of the Canadian Cancer Society is prepared for their annual fundraising campaign which kicks off at Knox Church on Wednesday, March 28 with a volunteer appreciation night at 6p.m. The next day, March 29, the sale of daffodils, a symbol of hope in the fight against cancer, starts and continues for the next two days. Cathy Gerrow, Rena Arbiuc and Liz Bailey of the Acton branch inspected early daffs at Blooms Away flower shop this week. The sale of daffodils nets the local branch over $6,000 annually.
