Acton Citizens of the Year ceremony Acton Rotary Club, along with numerous well wishers and dignitaries, honoured the 2007 Citizens of the Year, Diane and Bill Spiel- vogel, on Saturday, May 5 at Blue Springs Golf Course. The Spielvogels, the first ever couple to win the award, were honoured for their involvement in the Santa Claus parade for over 25 years. Bill Spielvogel, now a retired firefighter, started working on the an- nual parade after the Fire Fighters Association be- came involved in 1983/84. Speakers at the awards ceremony included Bob MacKinnon, who made a speech on behalf of the The Spielvogels accept the Citizens of the Year award from Mayor Bonnette surrounded by family members. - Ted Tyler photo Acton Rotary Club. It is as follows: This award is presented to a citizen or citizens who have contributed to the bet- terment of our community. The citizens of Acton show their appreciation of this contribution by pre- sentation of this annual award. We believe Acton has become a better community thanks to the contributions of these very worthy recipi- ents.Rotarian Bob MacKinnon receives fellowship award On Friday, April 27, Acton Rotary Club honoured the 2007 recipient of the Paul Harris Fellowship award, Bob MacKinnon. The following is a repro- duction of the Paul Harris Fellowship presentation. This evening we will be presenting the Paul Harris Fellowship award to a member of the Acton Rotary Club. He has made significant contribu- tions to Acton Rotary and the Acton Community. He has demonstrated the Rotary Motto Service above Self. He will be joining 17 other Rotarians and community members who have received this award since 1983. The Acton Rotarian being presented with the Paul Har- ris Fellowship this evening joined Acton Rotary in Dec. 1999. He (we do not have any female members at present) is an excellent Rotarian, has held many various organizational positions within Acton Rotary and is indeed a good commu- nity ambassador for Rotary. In a small club such as ours it is easy to become President, he was in 2002-2003, how- ever, for some strange reason (he didnt get it right the first time, or he indeed liked the job) he is again president for 2006-2007. This individual is on a bit of a roll. In January this year he won the Acton Rotary Club Elimination Draw and a $4,000 voucher to be spent at a San- dals Resort. In April the Halton Hills Chamber of Commerce presented his business with the Civic Pride Award, and this evening we are presenting him with a Paul Harris Fellow. Ladies and gentlemen, this years recipient of the Acton Rotary Clubs Paul Harris Fellowship award Mr. Bob MacKinnon.
