Halton has been given a good credit rating and the regions administrators are crediting their sound management skills. Independent ratings agency Moodys Investors Service has again confirmed Halton Regions AAA credit rating, the highest credit rating available to any is- suer of long-term debt in North America. This is the eighteenth year in a row the Region has achieved this rating. Haltons AAA credit rating is good news for residents because it means that the Region and the Local Municipalities can borrow money at the lowest possible interest rates, said Halton Regional Chair Gary Carr. Thanks to our prudent fiscal management and our commitment to multi-year planning, we can pass our lower costs on to our taxpayers. The Moodys report, released April 16, 2007, recognizes the Regions abil- ity to leverage its financial rating when it comes to providing services to the community. Haltons balanced financial profile, including dependable cash flows, predictable operating expenditures and careful response to emerging cost pres- sures, supports the Regions high credit rating. Halton has been recognized year after year for its outstanding credit rating and strong financial management, said Acting Chief Administrative Officer and Regional Treasurer Jane MacCaskill. The AAA rating allows Halton to continue to deliver essential services to Halton residents and businesses, and confirms our balanced ap- proach to long-term capital planning. According to Moodys, Haltons cost pressures have been managed with modest tax increases, strong assessment growth and spending reallocations. Moodys has attached a stable outlook to the Regions profile, indicating their confidence in the Regions ability to maintain this rating in the future. In addition, transfers from the federal government, including the Goods and Services Tax rebate and federal gas tax funding, will help to moderate the impact of certain financial pressures over the next few years. Halton Region retains tripleA rating
