Anniversary Halton police believe a Milton motorcycle rider was speeding when he slammed into a Cadillac at 10:42 Sunday morning in the in- tersection of Guelph Line and 10 Side Road in Nas- sagaweya. A police press release said the driver of a bike who was southbound on Guelph Line, may have been trav- elling at an apparent high rate of speed just prior to the impact with a car that was turning west on 10 Side Road from Guelph Line. The 19-year-old was thrown from his bike and taken to Milton District Hos- pital, then transferred by air ambulance to Hamilton Gen- eral Hospital. At press time is was in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries. The Cadillac driver, an 84-year-old Milton resident, was treated at the scene for minor injuries and released. Officers are reconstruct- ing the accident and ask witnesses to call Detective Constable Steve Martin at 905- 878-5511 ext. 2379. Thieves crash A crash of a stolen SUV on Steeles Avenue at the Sixth Line early Friday morning ended a stealing spree for two Young Offenders from Mississauga and an adult from Toronto. With a 14-year-old male at the wheel, a stolen SUV ran a stop sign and hit a west bound transport truck, causing the SUV to roll and trap the driver who had to be extricated by fire and ambu- lance crews. Two other males, one 17- year-old and the adult, ran from the scene but were tracked and apprehended by police canine and uniform officers. Police said the three had been stealing vehicles in the Burlington, Oakville and Mississauga areas and driving them to rural areas to steal from unlocked ve- hicles. The occupants all suffered minor injuries, were treated and released into police custody. They face numerous charges, and at press time, remained in custody. Fire report Acton firefighters had a busy weekend starting with a large grass fire in the Eden Mills area at 3:22 on Satur- day afternoon. The owner of the prop- erty on the Eramosa-Milton Town Line, between Guelph Line and Fourth Line, was burning tall grasses along his fence line when the fire got away from him, spreading to adjacent fields. *** A smoke complaint led Acton firefighters to an il- legal fire at a property on Highway 7, west of the Fifth Line, at 11 oclock on Sun- day morning. They doused the fire and advised the property owner about burn permit require- ments. *** A small fire in the engine compartment of a car was out when Acton fire fight- ers arrived at the scene on Trafalgar Road, north of 22 Side Road at 12:36 p.m. on Sunday. Damage is esti- mated at $500. *** At 4:34 p.m. on Sunday, a crew got a call of a small fire on Highway 25 at 22 Side Road. They found a small burned area a patch ap- proximately one-foot square most likely caused by a tossed cigarette butt. POLICE/FIRE REPORT Standard and Poors Rat- ings Services published its annual review of Halton Regions credit standing in May of 2007 and affirmed its highest rating of AAA. In ad- dition, S&P attached a stable outlook to the rating. S&P is the second inde- pendent agency to review Haltons credit rating this year. In April, Moodys In- vestors Service announced it would continue to rate Halton as AAA. Standard and Poors rating analysis included the follow- ing rationale in support of its AAA rating determination: Haltons strong net credi- tor status. While the region plans to increase its debt out- standing in the coming years to fund capital expenditures, its exceptionally strong li- quidity is such that even after planned debt issuance the region is expected to remain a strong net creditor. Haltons very strong and consistent budgetary perfor- mance. Financial flexibility is provided by Haltons op- erating results, a key credit strength. Hal tons so l id eco- nomic fundamentals and performance. S&P antici- pates that Haltons economic prospects will remain strong in regard to population and assessment growth. . Bike driver, Cadillac crash Sunday Halton get Triple A rate Whats Your Beef? Put it in a letter to the Editor! Deadline is Tuesday at noon.
