Main St. reconstruction slow project By Frances Niblock Steady, but very slow. So goes the replacement of the sanitary sewers un- der Main Street, part of a $1.3-million reconstruction of Main Street from Knox Street to Actons southerly limit near the entrance to Superior Glove. This week, crews are working to replace the sani- tary sewer pipes, located about five-metres under- ground, from Church Street towards Mill Street and plan to get as close to the intersection of Mill Street as they can by tomorrow (Friday). Then, they are talking about coming in on Sunday night after the Leathertown Festival on the 12th to install the manhole in the intersec- tion of Mill and Main, said Ron Goddard, the Towns manager of Engineering Design and Capital Works on Friday, adding the crews would work all night, with Mill Street closed at Main Street, and one lane open to traffi c on Main Street. I think the detours would be in place until noon hour on Monday (August 13) Wedding gifts and cash were sto- len during a break-in on Sunday or Monday at the Brock Ave. home of an Acton couple who were recently married. The couple returned home on Mon- day to fi nd their back door had been forced open, and $8,000 in cash and items were missing including several gifts cards that were wedding gifts, a $500 coin set, $5,000 in wedding cash, a Nintendo WII, a Sony DVD player, a gold ring, a bracelet, earrings and a HP laptop computer. The thefts occurred between 9 p.m. on Sunday and 6 p.m. on Monday, and neighbours canvassed by police did not see or hear anything. Take four weeks to get pipes in The Town will spend up to $60,938 for a project manager and assistant to prepare a Green Plan for Halton Hills. Engineer Maureen McCauley will be paid $40,000 to complete a work plan and budget for the new Halton Hills Sustainable Green Plan Task Force and the budget for the project assistant, for related materials, communications and experts is $20,000. The Task Force will develop a workable, af- fordable Green Plan to preserve and protect the environment as the Town develops an environ- mental strategy by thinking globally and acting locally. Regional Ward 3/4 Councillor Jane Fogal expects a great proud from the diverse members who were recruited for the Task Force and said the facilitator is cheap in this. Fogal said the potential scope of this project is so huge that they need a facilitator to bring them back to reality and back on track so the project is manageable for Halton Hills. Georgetown Councillor Moya Johnson, who questioned why the consultant hiring report ini- tially did not to have an set limit, questioned that $5,000 was set aside for graphic design fees and another $5,000 for communications. She asked if money could be saved by doing the work in- house. The task force Green Plan is due in November.
