Expanded Go Train service to George- town is not in the cards for the near future, yet billions of dollars have been promised for public transit by the province in the Greater Toronto and Golden Horseshoe areas, news that disappoints Halton Hills Mayor Rick Bonnette. Its unfortunate that $18-billion dollars (in transit funding) is announced, and were not getting a piece of the pieis there anything concrete, anything sub- stantial that is coming to Halton Hills? Bonnette asked staff at the July council meeting, prior to presentations by the Town and Region to the Greater Toronto Transportation Authority (GTTA) board that will report to the province this fall on a transportation strategy. At the July 27 GTTA meeting, Halton lobbied for all-day GO Train service on the Georgetown and Milton lines and rapid transit bus service on Highway 407. Bonnette said that although Halton Hills is part of the GTA, when it comes to transit funding, it never seems that way. The horseshoe tourney between Br.197 and Br.120 last Saturday afternoon was well supported, but the Georgetown crowd won the day. A good time was had by all, and that was the real name of the game. The Legion Masters seems to get more popular every year; the sign-up sheet was up and down in three days. Sorry all 72 places have been taken. You could ask to have your name on a short list (mine is) in case of cancellations. Yours in comradeship, Jim Hayes, Branch 197 PRO.
