The tenta- tive settlement will now be presented to ONA Lo- cal 1 members as well as to Members of Regional Council for ratification. If a tentative settlement had not been reached, ONA Local 1 representing ap- proximately 140 registered nurses would have been in a legal strike position. Were pleased the par- ties were able to reach this tentative settlement and that our residents and businesses will continue to receive the high quality programs and services theyve come to expect from Halton Re- gion, said John Phelan, Acting Director Human Resources. The Regional Municipal- ity of Halton serves more than 430,000 residents in the City of Burlington, the Town of Halton Hills, the Town of Milton, and the Town of Oakville. Given Town Councils commitment to undertaking actions that will significantly contribute to the achievement of a healthier environment, has resulted in Mayor Rick Bonnette assembling a May- ors Green Plan Task Force for the purposes of preparing a Green Plan for the Town of Halton Hills. Approved by Council in June 2007, the Task Force consists of a diverse group of individuals that best rep- resents the needs of Halton Hills. Task force representa- tion includes members of Halton Hills Council, Halton Hills staff, Halton Hills Hy- dro, HOPE, POWER, Christ the King Secondary School, TEAC, Neilson Dairy, Halton Federation of Agriculture and the Halton Hills Chamber of Commerce. The task force has met on a regular basis to discuss and develop the terms for what will form the Towns Green Plan. It is anticipated that the Green Plan will be finalized this November, and will focus on actions that are practical, affordable, reasonable and enforceable/ educational. In an effort to learn form other municipalities; a Mu- nicipal Experts Forum has been put together for task force members. The munici- pal experts presentations will focus on municipal initia- tives and best practices as they relate to environmental strategies and sustainability frameworks. Following the open por- tion of the Forum, the task force will stay to dialogue directly with the experts to seek their input regarding appropriate applications for Halton Hills.
