BRANCH NO. 197 Comrades, Last Sunday, the weather was as perfect as the turnout for the Annual Family Fun Day, and the inaugural Gary Munday Memorial Fishing Derby. It was a delight to listen to the sounds of lots of kids having fun while trying to win a prize. Cathy Munday presented the fishing derby winners with their plaques and their names will be put on the trophy. Thirty-five young hopefuls took up the challenge, and the winners were:- 2-4 yrs, Zachery Wilson 9 in. Bass; 5-6 yrs, Aidain Collarman 5 in. Sunfish; 7-10 yrs. Reilley Constable 12 in. Bass; 11-15 yrs. Jesse Hill 20 in. Pike. There were games for kids and adults and prizes for everyone. Special thanks go to Cathy Munday and her family for donating the fishing derby prizes, and for coming early to help set up. The game prizes this year were outstanding, and thanks go to Janet Garton and Kath- leen Bevan for their generous donations. Watching the excitement of the children when partici- pating in a game makes the event what it is. As always, its the volunteers who make it run so well and have the most fun doing it. Well done to Bev Mattocks, and all who contributed to the day. The Branch and Ladies Auxiliary are hosting the an- nual visit of the Sunnybrook Veterans on Sunday Sept. 9. All Branch members are invited to come and welcome our guests. The Branch will be open from noon until 6pm. The Provincial Service Officer will be visiting the Branch on Oct 29. Veterans or their dependents, who wish to arrange an inter- view, can call the Branch Service Officer Dave Crook. Qualifying conditions are changing all the time, and an interview at this time could be beneficial. Remember, you do not have to be a Legion member to take advantage of this ser- vice, and all interviews are strictly confidential. SPORTS. The Acton Ladies Dart League is starting up shortly, come on down on Wednesday Sept 5 or 12 to sign-up. Or put your name on the sheet on the notice board and we will call you. League play starts Sept 19, through to April. Ladies this is a fun league, we play for fun. We are here to enjoy ourselves, and all are welcome.
