BRANCH NO. 197 Comrades, The Branch mourns the passing of Hector Lambert, our comrade, who was a legion member for 59 years. An RCAF veteran, Hector served in the UK and Eu- rope during WW11. A Legion Tribute was held at Blue Springs Fu- neral Home last Monday evening. Our deepest sympathy is extended to his family at this most distressing time. At the going down of the Sun And in the morning We will remember them. Last Sunday, the Branch and LadiesAuxiliary hosted the annual visit of the Sun- nybrook Veterans, providing comfort and a little social recreation to our veterans, part of the obligation we undertook when we became members of the Legion. Veterans of Sunnybrook are diminishing in number, and so are the numbers of Legion members who are prepared to come and show them we still care. Fall Fair: This Saturday, the Branch will be having the Fall Fair breakfast, starting at 7am. Later in the day we will have entertainment on the patio and the BBQ will be going full steam. Sports: The Legion Masters or- ganizers were blessed with a perfect day last Saturday, and the players took great advantage of it. And the winners were:- Mens low gross, Rod Leach; low net, Mac Mack- enzie. Ladies low gross, Peggy Harris; low net, Cathy Regular. Mens lon- gest drive, Jerry Wiscombe; closest to the pin, Jerry Wiscombe. Ladies longest drive, Kathleen Bevan; clos- est to pin, Peggy Harris. Our thanks to all who worked to make this day the success it was, by donating prizes, and doing all the behind the scene work that this event entails. With a special mention to the BBQ crew for the wonderful steaks. The prizes donated by the following were very much appreciated:- Sobeys, Shoppers Drug Mart, Hol- ly Elect.(Dougald Dick), Kathleen Bevan (Ultramar), Ren Cunard, Ian Duncan, Dave Lewis, Tanners, Mill Street Crossing, Acton Golf Course, Carl Fisker, for con- tacting the many suppliers who donated. Last Saturday, our team of Teresa Uiterwyk and Keith Andrews went to Smith Falls to take on the best horseshoe players in Ontario for the Provincial Championship. The competition proved to be too good on the day; however our team experi- enced a first for them. They played in an indoor facility where the lucky players in the Ottawa area can play horseshoes all year round. The Acton Mens In- dustrial Cribbage League, starts on October 11 and runs through to next April. You do not have to be a legion member to play in this league.
