THE NEW TANNER THURSDAY, OCTOBER 11, 20072 PUBLIC SUBMISSIONS INVITED SUSTAINABLE HALTON/HALTON HILLS INPUT TO PROPOSED REGIONAL GROWTH SCENARIOS As part of the regularly scheduled Council meeting on October 15, 2007, Council is inviting oral and/or written submissions from interested parties on the Sustainable Halton Plan and its potential implications for the Town of Halton Hills from a future growth perspective. Separate written submissions, by letter or e-mail to the Town Clerk, received by October 15th, 2007 will also be considered by Town Council in its future deliberations. The Region of Halton in consultation with the local municipalities of Burlington, Halton Hills, Milton and Oakville has commenced a planning exercise known as the Sustainable Halton Plan. The Sustainable Halton Plan is intended to respond to Places to Grow, the Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe. In the Growth Plan the Region of Halton is targeted to grow to 780,000 people and 390,000 jobs by 2031. The recently completed Phase 1 of the Sustainable Halton process has determined that additional urban lands are required in Halton Region to accommodate the 2031 Growth Plan targets. Specific locations for additional urban land and the allocation of growth among the four local municipalities of Burlington, Halton Hills, Milton and Oakville has yet to be decided by the Region. Phase 2 of Sustainable Halton involves the development by the Region of evaluation criteria and preparation of growth scenarios to 2031. The growth scenarios are scheduled to be released by the Region in January 2008 for public and agency review. As part of this process, the Region is seeking the Towns input as to evaluation criteria and the growth scenarios which the Region should consider during Phase 2. In order to assist Town Council in its on-going deliberations on this matter, Halton Hills Council is inviting submissions from interested residents and other stakeholders. The October 15th meeting is not a statutory public meeting pursuant to the Planning Act. Town Council will not be making any decisions on this matter at the October 15, 2007 meeting but will be considering any submissions made on the 15th of October in its future deliberations. More information is available on the Town website at: www.haltonhills.ca and search for Sustainable Halton, or by contacting Steve Burke at (905) 873-2601 extension 2254 or stevebu@haltonhills.ca. The Districts within the Ontario Command of the Royal Canadian Legion hold their conventions twice an- nually, in the spring and the fall. District B comprises 61 branches from southern Ontario. The semi-annual convention provides the op- portunity for the members of Legionnaires invade Acton... the District Council to update the branches on the status of the various portfolios that they manage. It is also the venue for the branches to de- bate issues that are important to them at the local level. Time to Relax While the purpose of the convention is the business of the Royal Canadian Legion, there will also be plenty of time set aside for relaxation and comradeship. Meals and entertainment will be available at the Legion by the Lake all weekend. The citizens of Acton are wel- come to visit the Branch and join in the fun throughout the weekend. Convention Chairman Kathleen Bevan would like to thank the merchants of Acton for their generous support. Time and time again, the merchants of this town amaze us with their generos- ity. Any time we approach them for a donation of any kind to help with our events, they come through for us in an overwhelming way said Bevan. I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has donated in any way to help us put on a great con- vention. We are doing our best to show off the Town of Acton and our Branch to all of our visitors. Maintenance Chairman George DeRabbie has been the busiest member of the convention committee over the past few months. He and his volunteers have been working non-stop to spruce up the appearance of the building and the grounds. All of the bathrooms have been renovated, the front lobby has been redecorated and almost every surface has received a fresh coat of paint. Volunteers are lined up to ensure the weekend goes smoothly for the delegates and the members of the Branch. The Ladies Auxilia- ry has donated their services for preparing and serving the Convention banquet set for Saturday night. This din- ner is reserved for Council members, delegates, Legion members and their guests. Parade Sunday The weekend wraps up with a parade from the Branch to the Cenotaph at Trinity United Church on Sunday. The parade, which will have many colour par- ties, bands and marching units is scheduled to depart the Branch at 1 pm. A Ser- vice of Remembrance will take place at approximately 1:45 pm at the Cenotaph. Shuttle buses will be avail- able to return the marchers to the Branch at the conclusion of the ceremony. Convention Chairman Be- van wants to make it clear who is responsible for the all the preparation work that has gone on to date. President Wes keeps tell- ing me what a great job I am doing. I have to remind him that I just have my hand on the wheel steering the ship. If it wasnt for the committee members who are manning the oars and doing all the hard work, we would be no where with this convention. I cannot give enough praise to the efforts and leadership shown by all of the Sub-com- mittee chairmen. We will do our Branch and Town proud. I am giving the last word to Branch President Wes, I wish my comrade delegates a productive and enjoyable Convention, and I give my sincere thanks to the Branch 197 team who have worked so hard to put this Conven- tion together.
