LEGION NEWS By James Hayes P.R.O. BRANCH NO. 197 Comrades, Last Saturday morning Branch President Wes Kuta- sienski and a number of members attended the raising of several new flags on the Cenotaph in Rockwood. We had the pleasure of meeting one of our soldiers, a Rockwood native who has just returned from a tour of duty in Afghanistan. It was my privilege to shake Cap- tain Brendan Insleys hand on that occasion. Captain Insley is serv- ing with the 2nd. Regiment of Royal Canadian Horse Artillery. His address to all in at- tendance was very well received, and I have posted a copy on the notice board at the Branch, for anyone who wishes to read it. Last Sunday afternoon, family and friends of Mary and Ab Irwin gathered in the Ladies Lounge at the Legion to help them celebrate their union of 60 years. We sincerely wish them continued health and hap- piness. There will be Initiation of new members, at the Branch tomorrow evening, Friday Oct. 26 at 8 p.m. Why not come down and welcome our new comrades? President, Annamarie Lowin To the editor, On behalf of the Acton Branch of the Canadian Can- cer Society, I would like to express my sincere thanks to Councillor Clark Somerville, for all his fundraising efforts to help make this devastating disease history. Councillor Somervilles combined efforts netted the Cancer Society and the Acton Angels over $2,500. He buzzed off his hair (joined by Rebecca Bath), helped create the Spring Salad for the cure and put himself up on the auction block (with John Eddolls) as they escorted the two highest bidding ladies to the Acton Angels fundraiser dance. Thank you again Mr. Somerville. It is commitment like this that will hopefully aid in the extinction of can- cer in our near future.
