The buildings bell tower, which faces west towards Giant Tiger is being restored to its original condition, including an extended roof which does not presently exist. If you look at old pictures of the town hall, there is a very high roof on top of the bell tower, explains Ron Burrell, new chair of Heri- tage Acton. Weve rebuilt it and were going to put it back where it belongs. The building appears to be in good condition for be- ing 124 years old, however, when renovations began on Thursday, Oct. 25, it became apparent that some other renovations will need to be addressed. When we started on the roof this morning, we noticed the structural supports of the roof need to be replaced in some places, says Burrell. Henderson attended school in George- town, graduating from Georgetown High School when he began working with the postal service as a letter carrier over Christmas holidays. In 1972, Henderson met his wife, Sharon through the Acton Junior Farmers and got onto the post offi ce full time as a relief letter carrier in Georgetown, meaning he Continued on Page 2 POLICE BEAT Vandalized again Between October 19 and 22, on three separate occa- sions, unknown person or persons once again vandal- ized the Mac MacSween Memorial Garden at Rotary Park. Each time, plants and fl owers were removed and scattered throughout the park. Damage is estimated at $500. Gumballs gone On Guelph Street in Georgetown on October 16, a vehicle pulling a utility trailer was stopped by police at 4 a.m. In the utility trailer were several vending ma- chines. Further investigation disclosed the vending ma- chines were those reported stolen locally. Included was a gumball machine taken from the Acton Sobeys at 2:30 a.m. the same morn- ing. The driver was charged with 4 counts of possessing stolen property and 4 counts of breach of probation. Acton fi refi ghters battle $300,000 blaze The Fire Marshals offi ce and TSSA are inves- tigating the cause of a $300,000 garage/workshop fi re at 12346 Highway 7 on Sunday morning around 8 a.m. Acton fi refi ghters responded to a call at 8:07. When they arrived shortly after the alarm they found the structure and its contents full involved in fl ames. The structure was located almost directly across from the Cedar Springs Motel, approximately 4 kms east of Acton. No injuries were reported and the preliminary estimate set the loss at $300,000. Fire department staff are assisting with the investigation. Acton firefighters responded to call on Wednesday Oct. 24 at 8:55 a.m. for tanker assis- tance by Milton Fire Department on 10 Sideroad which was cancelled enroute. Another call for a medical assest on the Guelph Line the next day at 4:26 a.m. was cancelled by the ambulance upon arrival. Again on Thursday, Oct. 25 at 9:01 p.m. the local crew responded to a carbon monoxide detector activation on the Ninth Line. No cause could be found. Dont forget!
