The hub will be a free open space available for social ser- vice groups from all around Acton. The project is in part- nership with both the Catholic and public school boards, Halton Region, Childrens Aid Society, Transitions For Youth, ROCK (Reach Out Centre for Kids) and the Halton Regional Police. The projects main goal is to provide a free space for social service groups to have meetings, provide services for families and more says Alison Hilborn, Neighbour- hood Coordinator for Our Kids Network. It will be available 24/7, Hilborn says. MSB is very excited and its helping chil- dren thrive. Hilborn currently works out of her office at St. Joseph school. She has been there since June talking one-on-one with partners and organiza- tions to get the word out about this new five-year pilot project. Some of the partners for this endeavour include Links2Care, Acton District High School, the Acton public library, YMCA of Greater Toronto, and many more. Even though the hub is being constructed on MSB property, Hilborn says it is important to note that the hub is not just for MSBs own use; everyone is welcome to use its space and services. The hub itself is going to be about the size of a classroom. This open space will also have two offices and two full time CAS workers, Lynda Dikken and Helen Mick. Space is hard to find in Acton, there is not a lot of it, Hilborn says. So that is just one other option for people to run a program out of. Acton was chosen to be the home for this new project because the towns children fell into a category of having a high need for social ser- vices, according to a survey of Haltons youth. Our focus is on children aged 0-18, she says. We are addressing children as well as parents. While construction is un- derway on the new hub, there is a temporary entrance to gain access to the indoor pool located at MSB. If anyone requires wheelchair access to the pool, they are asked to contact their office at (519) 853-3140. Further information about the hub and its services is available by contacting Alison Hilborn at the Our Kids Network. She can be reached through email at actonhub@ourkidsnetwork. ca Try a Tanner ad COORDINATOR: Neigh- bourhood Coordinator Alison Hilborn a member of the Our Kids Network, is in charge of the new hub at MSB.
