A new splash pad will be opening in Rockwood next Friday, June 27 at Rockmosa Park. It is an outdoor water playground, with water being sprayed, poured or dumped from a variety of structures, where children and adults can enjoy being cooled off on a hot summers day. It uses a water recovery system, which chlorinates and re-circulates the water using a 2000 L reservoir. The Township of Guelph/Eramosa invites everyone to the Grand Opening celebrations beginning at 12:30 p.m. The Rockwood and District Lions Club will be serving BBQ hot dogs (free) and the first 100 visitors will receive a free Frisbee. MP Mike Chong and MPP Ted Arnott have been invited to the event, although attendance has not yet been confirmed. Mayor Chris White will be on hand to officially open the splash pad. It is a project of the Parks and Rec. Dept, managed by Robin Milne. The Vortex Splash Pad is distributed by ABC Recreation, who subcontracted the installation, for a quoted total of $185,000. An Ontario Trillium Foun- dation grant covered $75,000, with the remainder paid by the township. Parks and Rec. will landscape the area. Milne says the project is on-budget and on-time. So bring your bathing suit and sunscreen, and enjoy a big splash. Lions Spring Fair The Rockwood and District Lions Spring Fair is back, June 20 to 22, at Rockmosa Park. Admission is free. The much loved, little freckled-faced redhead has been warming hearts for a century. The book is just as popular to- day as when first published, with over 50 million copies sold worldwide in over 40 languages. Montgomery re- mains Canadas best-selling author of all time. Rockwood author Deb Quaile will participate in celebrations in Norval, where Montgomery lived in the Presbyterian manse at 402 Draper Street with her husband, Rev. Ewan Macdonald, and their two sons. Quailes book, L.M. Montgomery: the Norval Years, 1926-1935, tells the story of her life there. During these years, Montgomery wrote five novels, numerous skits, poems, and articles, and completed two and a half volumes of her personal journals. She penned her books in the upstairs bed- room of the Presbyterian manse facing Russells Hills of Pines. Meet Quaile in Norval on Saturday, June 21, at Anne of Green Gables Day in the L. M. Montgomery Heritage Gardens. Come celebrate with the Norval Community Association and enjoy lo- cal dancers, readings, The Freckled Lion Bookstore, book signings in Norval Park, themed refreshments, an Anne look-alike contest and more from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, contact Kathy Gastle at (905) Continued on Page 17
