This growth management initiative is called Sustainable Halton. Halton Regions efforts will mean less sprawl, greater protection of farmland, better infrastructure, and more liveable communities. In June of this year, Halton Region released five Growth Concepts that show where future homes and jobs could be located. In September, the Region is hosting four open houses to discuss the five Growth Concepts. Come to an open house to learn about how the Region is planning for sustainable and healthy communities and how we will meet the Provinces population and employment growth forecasts for Halton Region. We want to hear your views of the Growth Concepts. Your comments are important as we move forward on Sustainable Halton and further refine the concepts in the next phase of work. If you are unable to attend, or want more information, please visit our website at www.halton.ca/sustainablehalton. Follow the links to the online workbook and give us your thoughts. Visit www.ruthbowes.com for listings Ted Arnott says: $1.1 billion ok but still no fair gas tax revenue Wellington Halton Hills MPP Ted Arnott lands the recent $1.1 billion an- nouncement by Premier MCGuinty for municipali- ties as a help to strengthen their infrastructure and repairs roads and bridges but notes the province still does not get stable, predict- able funding from gas tax revenues. Arnott says the McGuinty government provides predictable gasoline tax revenues to municipalities operating mass transit sys- tems, but rural and small town municipalities remain left out in the cold un- like the federal government which distributes gas tax revenues fairly to all mu- nicipalities. Funds promised to municipalities in Welling- ton-Halton Hills riding include $2,481,806 for Halton Hills, $622,448 for the Town of Erin, $673,704 for Guelph/Eramosa Twp., $22,077,181 for Halton Re- gion and $3,360,585 for Wellington County. The amounts were based on population figures. Arnott acknowledges it is a lot of money but maintains the need is much greater. It needs to be put in per- spective, he says, citing a report from the Institute for Research on Public Policy, which found Canadian mu- nicipalities require a $200 billion investment to fix crumbling infrastructures and improve Canadas productivity and economic competitiveness. Arnott started a petition in June calling on the province Wellington-Halton Hills MPP Ted Arnott to distribute all gasoline tax revenues fairly and is urging his constituents to sign it. IT is available on his website at www.tedarnottmpp.com. TANNER ADS WORK!
