CREATING MORE SPACE: Acton Seniors Centre member Bev Jones was busy last week adding addi- tional shelves to our bookcases so we could display videos and books in our lending Library at the Centre - Julie Conroy Photo Oops I goofed. My daugh- ter Theresa phoned me to say they had received my life story in the mail and enjoyed reading it. She said I had mentioned everyone else in the family, but forgot to mention her husband of three years. Sorry Kevin, how could we miss you! The Centre has a great selection of videos for mem- bers to borrow. All we ask is that you return them. People have been very generous and donated so many that Bev and Pat Jones and I spent several hours on two different days rearranging the book shelves to expand the shelf space. Some are family type movies and childrens classics. (Great if you are babysitting over the summer) There are also historical, travel, war and some old classics. There is surly something suitable for everyone. If this weather doesnt improve, you will have time to work your way through quite a few. Dont forget we will have a feature movie on Tuesday afternoons with cold drinks and popcorn for $1.00. What a great way to cool off and meet friends. It was nice to see Betty Green playing bid euchre on Thursday afternoon. She said she thought she had better come before she forgot how to play. They are always happy to see new faces, so if you are looking for something to fill in a few hours on a Thursday there is Canasta on Thursday mornings, and bid euchre Thursday afternoons. This may seem like a long way off, but we are having a joint dance/social even- ing with the Georgetown Centre on Friday October 16. We will be holding it in the Acton Legion Games room. There will be a disc jockey, cash bar and light refreshments. Mark your calendar, and watch for more details. Tickets will be available later. This is not only for members, but friends as well. Now that its summer its a great time to take in one of the trips the Centre offers through Great Canadian. On Thursday August 13 they are going to Port Stanley for a scenic train ride, followed by lunch at Kettle Creek Inn and a visit to Brodericks Ice Cream Parlour. Sounds like a perfect way to spend a summers day. There is also a trip planned to see West Side Story at the Stratford Festival Theatre in September. Stop in and see what other trips might catch your eye. I am busy planning another trip to Mohawk on Monday, September 28 before they close for the season. If you are interested in the buffet dinner and watching the races, sign up quickly as I have to book early. This is a Gals on the Go trip! The 50/50 was won again this week. This is the second week in a row. Dermot Rich- ardson was the lucky winner of $57.50. Wrong signature A letter in The New Tanner of Thursday, July 2, 2009 regarding bus driver changes was mistakenly ascribed to Kathy Holmes. The signature should have been that of Carolin Bot, not Kathy Holmes. The New Tanner regrets any confu- sion or embarrassment the letter may have caused. Letters are the opinion of the writ- ers, not necessarily those of The New Tanner.
