THE NEW TANNER THURSDAY, AUGUST 20, 2009 8 it at a Rotary Auction one year and honestly think that I am the only one in town with a real airplane working beverage cart. When we moved, I in- formed the Dude that as far as I was concerned the basement was his domain. I refer to it as Mandom. Marchesano He was thrilled to finally have the room to set up his pool table and has been plotting the entertainment zone since we bought the house. He has his eyes on a classic pinball machine as well. However, I think Mandom needs a special hoarders touch. As I surfed an online auction I saw it and was intrigued. The gardener told me we had to get it for Mandom. It was a rag- time organ complete with snare drums, roll music and continuous play. Now wouldnt that be a con- versation piece. I think it would be a good trade. I could get rid of a whole bunch of stuff Ive been keeping for no really valid reason, and in return, it could be swapped for this. I think it may take some work convincing the Dude but I bet nobody in town has a ragtime organ. Continued from Page 6 Some things not garbage... Lazy afternoon: Judy Burtney, Helen Jocque, Shelley thurston and Marie anderson relax after enjoying steak dinners as they cruised the Grand river on a recent acton Seniors Centre day trip. submitted photo ????? ???????? ???????????????? ???????? ?????? On Tuesday, Jill Teatreault, Margaret Anderson and I spent a very enjoyable day touring three different Sen- iors Centres in the Niagara Area. It is always interest- ing seeing how the different Centres operate and what they offer that might be beneficial to our own cen- tre. It may seem like a long way off, but on Tuesday, Sept 8 we will be hold- ing the birthday tea for all members who were born in either August or September. You should get a phone call inviting you. If for some reason you dont, give Jane McAllister a ring. O u r N e w M e m b e r s Luncheon will be held on Monday, Oct 5 at 12:30 pm. Hopefully we will have lots of new members join us over the next few months. If you became a member of the Seniors Centre recently you should receive an official in- vite from the membership committee inviting you to the luncheon. If you join during the next few months, the membership fee will be pro-rated and take into account the remaining months of 2009 plus 2010 membership. (Membership is always due by the end of December.) Anyone 55 or over is welcome to join us. We dont just sit around sipping tea and chatting, but offer exercise classes, craft classes, hiking, cards, once a month an interesting speak- er, trips and great monthly social dinners. Every Friday, all year round, we have lunch at noon. Once a month it is pot luck, twice a month, soup and sandwiches plus dessert, and the remaining Friday it is a mystery lunch. The mystery lunches are not only a bargain but won- derful. The Friday lunch committee does a great job. Always something tasty and enjoyable. I have finalized plans for the Gals on the Go trip to the Ontario Art Gallery (OAG) and St. Lawrence Market for Saturday, Oct 24. We will be leaving the Centre around 9 am and arriving at the OAG at 10 am where we will drop off the people who wish to tour the Gal- lery. We then proceed to the market, where we will spend a couple of hours browsing, shopping, and having lunch. We will return to pick up the Art group around 1:15 pm, so that should give us plenty of time to shop till we drop and explore the great cheese, fish, meat, bakery and vegetable stores at both the farmers market and the regular market. I al- ways look forward to buying some English cheese and the great bagels when I am there. At the Bid Euchre last Thursday Muriel Dzierla had the only mooner. Bev is still looking for volunteers to assist him in canvassing the various businesses in the Halton Hills area, asking them to advertise at the Rockathon on October 2 and 3. We display each business adver- tisement for half an hour on a continuous rotation with the other sponsors. It is al- ways lots of fun. We will be rocking continuously for 36 hours and always have lots of support from the people that come from far and wide to shop at Sobeys, and the Sobeys staff are great! Golfers, where are you? We still have some tickets left for the fun golf game at the par three course at Blue Springs. We have had a few Georgetown members pur- chase tickets, but we were hoping for more. She said its the first time in 12 years she has won, so its about time. It couldnt have happened to a nicer person. The Halton School Bus Safety Committee is moving into high gear to assist parents and first time riders in under- standing the importance of school bus safety. The com- mittee, with representatives from Halton Student trans- portation Services and all bus operators in Halton, are hosting their annual School Bus Orientation Day on Sat- urday, August 29 starting at 9 am. The Acton session will be at Acton District High School with Tyler Transport Ltd. Parents are encouraged to bring their children to the free sessions, which will feature a classroom presentation on school bus safety, including a special Winnie-the-Pooh video and a demonstration on a school bus. School bus company safety officers and bus drivers will talk to the children about safely getting on and off of the bus, proper behaviour on a school bus, crossing the street to get on a waiting bus and overall school bus safety. In addi- tion, a tip sheet on school bus safety, entitled Think! Think! Think Safety! will be distributed To register students for a preferred time slot, call: Tyler Transport Ltd a 519-853-1550.
