By Rebecca Ring Wellington Country Market on Jones Base- line has applied for a zoning amendment in order to add parking and floor space. Owners Bill Ross and Brenda Maziarz- Ross want permission to expand the retail area from 700 sq. ft. to 1120 sq. ft, increase the number of employees, add nine customer and seven staff parking spaces for a total of 29, add a separate entrance onto Jones Base- line for the existing residence, and renovate the meat processing facility to comply with recent changes to food safety regulations. The market is a family owned business located on prime agricultural land and requires a zoning by-law amendment to establish the farm produce outlet. They do not propose to change the use, but rather to expand on it. The market is considered to have a relationship to the surround- ing agricultural area by selling local farm products and by offering an agricultural destination with its petting zoo of bun- nies, miniature donkeys, ponies and a pot bellied pig. Council agreed to move forward with the application and will hold a public meeting, in which neighbours will have the oppor- tunity to express concerns or support. By Rebecca Ring The Rockwood and Dis- trict Lions and Lioness Clubs have put up a sign at Waterside Park with the NAME IN LIGHTS: A new sign was erected at Waterside Park in Rockwood last week, courtesy of the Rockwood Lions and Lioness Clubs. The LED sign will display the park name, Lion and Lioness crests, and maps. Shown is Lovett Signs doing the job. - Submitted Photo New sign at Waterside Park Market wants to expand Crown doubles champs park name and club crests proudly displayed. Lion Darryl Nichol says they have wanted to do this for years, and with the Town- ships talk of downtown revitalization, they decid- ed to go for it. They kept the design simple in order to save money, but it still carried a hefty price tag of $20,000, which came from the clubs memorial fund. There is space for ad- vertising charity events on both sides of the sign. In addition, trail maps of Rockwood (and hopeful- ly other nearby hamlets) will be placed on one side and the Wellington Coun- ty Buy Fresh-Buy Local Map will be on the other. It encourages shopping locally to support farmers and the local economy. The Lions and Lioness Clubs own and maintain the park, which has been called Waterside Park for longer than Nichol can re- member. Now everyone will know its name. Nichol says everyone is invited to help care for the park and donations are al- ways welcome. The clubs also plan to install under- ground electrical wiring in the park to power Christ- mas lights, sound systems and the famous annual BBQ Cook-Off, which takes place Saturday, Sep- tember 26.
