Continued from Page 1 head back to their hotel after a long day of film- ing. Last Friday, the fans were rewarded for their patience. The boys appar- ently got out of their SUV and posed for photos with each of about 50 eager fans, which represented about half the crowd. Their handlers then ush- ered them back into their SUV, leaving the swoon- ing fans for another day. On Tuesday, an even bigger crowd showed up about 300. They were over the moon when the SUV stopped once again to offer up their idols. This time, the boys got out their instruments and performed a song for the crowd from the top of the SUV. As filming continues this week, it remains to be seen how large the crowd gets and how generous the band becomes with their fans. Some fan sites have compared the Jonas Broth- ers to The Beatles they certainly have the requi- site legions of screaming female fans. If they prove to have similar staying power, innovation and talent, the lucky kids in Rockwood will have some amazing stories to tell their grandchildren. Regardless of how things play out in the long run for the Jonas Brothers, these fans will indeed have great stories of their brush with fame the grandchildren just might respond, Who? classifications in the area and the availability of water and sewer services. Town staff said in the interest of maintaining a long-term relationship with the Board, the information it requested, which is pub- lic, should be provided so the Board does not have to file a Freedom of Informa- tion request. Since then Board officials have hired a consultant to look at the advisability of severing surplus lands from school sites and potential land uses. Prior to making a final decision, the Board would hold a public meet- ing in Acton to get public input. At Council last Tuesday, Acton Councillor Jon Hurst said the whole issue comes down to one question is the land surplus, or not? and Council vehemently believes it is not surplus. He said if the trustees received the Towns reso- lution on the issue, it is hard to understand how they could have made the decision to declare an undetermined part of the property surplus. Alluding to the fact that nine years ago the Town successfully convinced the Board not to declare any of the MSB site as surplus, Hurst asked what has changed in the ensuing years. Acton High School was undersized when it was built as far the number of acres it should have had for its playground and sports fields, and they were going to be able to use the MSB landsthat was one of the major things that changed the trustees minds nine years ago, Hurst said, adding he asked High School officials if they were using MSB lands and the answer was yes, includ- ing the hardball team, girls softball team and the soc- cer team. Hurst questioned if the trustees have that infor- mation and said Council must continue to show its opposition to the lands be- ing declared surplus. Acton Councillor Mike OLeary is unhappy with the Boards process for dealing with the severance because it wont hold a public meeting until after it has received a report from its consultant. I think they are hand- ling that bass-ackwards. I think they should have the public meeting before the decision was made to let the public provide input into the plan or recommen- dations of the consultants, OLeary said. Mayor Rick Bonnette, reflecting on Councillor Hursts question about what has changed in Ac- ton in the past nine years since the Board last dealt with the MSB land sev- erance issue, pointed out that the Town has grown from 6,500 people to over 10,000, adding more stress on the existing sports fields. Were green-belted so were not going to have an opportunity to expand the Town of Acton with more development to find more park. Well, once its paved over and it is gone, Bon- nette said, adding there is no services available in Acton. So, why are they con- tinuing on trying to market this land, hiring consult- ants with taxpayers money to try to get more informa- tion? Bonnette asked. The Town resolution in opposition to the Boards decision to declare some of the MSB land surplus will also be sent to the Community Schools Alli- ance that is fighting surplus land sales in other parts of Halton with a 5,000-name petition. Council opposes MSB land surplus... Continued from Page 1
