The Rockwood and District Lions Club and Wellington Fireplace and Leisure are hosting a BBQ cook-off, with about eight teams competing for best BBQ, best sauce, and more. The teams will be set up throughout the park. The Lions will be serving up a choice of slow-cooked BBQ beef or pork on a bun. Proceeds go to support their many worthwhile community projects. The Guelph/Eramosa Fire Department will be there with a fire truck, which the public is welcome to check out. Wellington O.P.P. will be there demonstrating the importance of seatbelts with crash tests. BBQ competitors are welcome to register until Friday. Fall fun at the library School is back and so are the school year programmes at the Rockwood Branch of the Wellington County Li- brary. Pre-School Storytime for ages three to five has resumed on Tuesdays from 1 to 1:45 p.m. and Wednesdays from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. on a drop-in basis. Bindings, The Junior Book and Activities after-school club for ages six and up will begin October 9 and continue every Thursday from 4 to 5 p.m. until November 27. Participants will make their own wooden knitting needles, then learn to knit a simple washcloth while listening to Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo. Registration is required. Food for Fines will take place from October 6 to 11. Knock $2 off any fines for late returns with each donation of a non-perishable food item for EWAGs food bank. Drop off donations at the library during regular hours. The babysitting course taking place on September 29 is full. Sign up now for the next one scheduled for De- cember 29. Fall Clean-up The Rockwood and District Lions Club is holding a community clean-up, Saturday, October 4. All are invited to help out. Meet at the Rockwood United Church parking lot on Harris St. at 8 a.m., or watch for the Lions around town to join in. Wear long sleeves, long pants, and bring work gloves. Market-on-the-Green and Thanksgiving pies The final Market-on-the-Green for the season takes place this Saturday, September 27, from 8 a.m. until noon on the Green at St. Johns Anglican Church on Main St. S. Shop for fresh local produce, baked goods, arts and crafts. Refreshments will be avail- able. While there, put in an order for homemade pies to top off the Thanks- giving feast. Pumpkin, pecan, apple and other fruit pies and butter tarts are available. Orders will be ready for pick- up Thanksgiving weekend. All creatures great and small St. Johns Anglican Church will cel- ebrate St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals, on Sunday, October 5 at 10 a.m. Bring your beloved creatures of all kinds to be blessed. Desperately needed items, such as bed sheets, towels, tools, electrical materials, tarps, kitchen wares and personal items such as tooth brushes and paste, acetaminophen, vitamins, diapers, etc. or financial donations can be dropped off at 101 Parkedge in Rockwood. FINDING LIFE: The GRCA held a Biothon at the Rockwood Conservation Area last weekend to raise funds for education programs.
