It appears that two years in a row Ms. Gamble, the reporter for The Independent & Free Press, has biased her articles regarding this issue accusing Mr. Domenic Padula of making accusations towards the Town. I was present at the Town council meeting on Monday, August 13, when Mr. Padula made his request to the town to fly the pride flag again this year. I did not see Mr. Padula making accusations only making the statement that it appears to be discrimination if the Town can decide to fly one organizations flag and but not the Pride flag. He asked the town to explain how this is not discrimination. Mr. Padula has demonstrated courage and leadership in advancing the rights of lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgendered people in our community and he deserves our applause. If this makes Mr. Padula an activist I wish for more activists in this town. This is an issue of human rights. I hope the Town of Halton Hills corporate affairs, reconsiders their policy so we can see the Pride flag and many other social justice flags gracing our Town hall. This will be a day to be proud of. Lyndsey Hole, Georgetown (Editors note: The Town did change its policy to fly the Pride flag after this letter was received. The Independent & Free Press stands by Ms. Gambles report.) Letters to the editor Pride rep wasnt making accusations Dear editor, Re: Town will fly pride flag, Sept. 7 edition. What on earth does sexual pride have to do with civic pride? Is HOPE also raising a flag for bisexuals, asexuals and heterosexuals? We are lucky enough to live in a country where we are free to live as we like why isnt anybody proud of being Canadian anymore? Perhaps the citizens in this community should spend more time uniting to face real issues (crime, poverty and discrimination) and less time trying to promote division. I am not looking forward to the conversation I get to have with my eight-year-old who wants to know what the rainbow flag stands for. Anne-Marie Ezeard, Georgetown Readers asks: What does sexual pride have to do with civic pride? Dear editor,From September 2006 to September 2007, Ive been very privileged to represent the Georgetown Agricultural Society as the ambassador at various events throughout the year. Ive met so many amazing people, and learned so much about agriculture. I would like to take this oppor- tunity to thank all the volunteers who dedicate them- selves to making the Georgetown Fall Fair a continued success, and to the patrons who support our wonderful fair by coming out to have a good time every year. Thanks also to the sponsors who help make this event possible. A warm welcome to Hillary Christie, this years new ambassador. Emily Dobson, Glen Williams Outgoing Georgetown Fair ambassador thanks all who made fair a success
