Through the use of modern language and music, a more flexible approach to wor- ship is being offered. We find that people are in different places today when it comes to their faith lives, said Revd Canon Rob Park, Rector of St. Georges, so as part of our complement of Sunday worship services, we wanted to include something current alongside our traditional 8 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. services. Music will set the tone for the service, with joyful, easy to pick up tunes. The new choir, with considerable assistance from vol- unteers Jim and Cheri Kelly, features guitar, flute and multi-gen- erational singers, with accompaniment on piano from St. Georges Music Director, Ron Greidanus. Jim and Cheri come to us with years of experience offering contemporary music at other Anglican churches; were so glad to have them as part of the music ensemble at St. Georges, said Greidanus. Along with our traditional choir at the 9:30 service and our Mens Group, the Contemporary group gives our parish a diverse musical experience on a Sunday morning in fact, Ive noticed that some congregants from the earlier service are stay- ing to participate in the contemporary service as well, he added. Weve examined other Anglican contemporary services and tried to select something which will work for us here in Georgetown, said Revd Park. Anglican worship does not offer pat answers, we approach faith with all of our doubts and all of our enthusiasm; yet we find that together we create a sense of belonging to something greater than ourselves. Through the bread and the wine that Jesus shared with his closest friends, we invite others to touch and taste the Divine, he added, Were trying to celebrate that same intimacy in our own lives. The Contemporary 11:15 service is the newest addition to the St. Georges worship experience, following upon the successful introduction of the monthly Saturday evening Messy Church services this past spring. Messy Church is a totally unique, all- ages creative worship service and shared meal. Under the direc- tion of theological student Nancy Rowe, Messy Church has con- sistently attracted new members to this distinctly fun and infor- mal style of worship. Our building may be old, but our approach is definitely not, said Rector Revd Rob Park of his Victorian era edifice. St. Georges Anglican Church is located on 60 Guelph St., and offers Sunday worship at 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 11:15 a.m., weekly Thursday worship at 10 a.m. and monthly Messy Church worship next October 13th.
