Dale Wood, invites young singers to join them for their 16th year of fun and entertainment. With over 150 members, the choir practises on Tuesdays. This is a great way to meet new people and have fun. There are four different age groups: Cherubs (5-6), Juniors (7-8), Intermediates (9-11) and Seniors (12- 20). In the past the choir has performed Disney, Broadway, music from past decades as well as Maritime music. The choir has had many high- lights. Besides performing locally for various events, the choir has had two Holland tours in 1998 and 2005. The 2005 trip included partici- pating in many events for the 60th anniversary celebrations of VE (Victory in Europe) Day, including singing at the Holten Cemetery. In addition, the choir has performed at the Ford Center, the Living Arts Centre and the Tulip Festival in Ottawa. The choir taped a TV commercial for The Bank of Montreal and were finalists in the competition to per- form in the Toronto production of Joseph and The Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat with Donny Osmond. As well the choir joined with the Georgetown Choral Society to per- form Missa Gaia with Alana Bridgewater in 2002 and travelled to England and Wales together in 2001. The choir also participated in an exchange program with The Whistler Childrens Chorus in 2003. Another Canadian exchange program is in the works as well as the possibility of a trip overseas the following year. The choir performs two concerts every year, one at Christmas and another in the spring. If you love to sing and are inter- ested in joining the choir, or for more information, please call 905-877-6841. Kids sing and have fun as part of world-travelled Georgetown Childrens Chorus SHARON ENGLISH Georgetown Childrens Chorus president As the William Mill in Glen Williams pre- pares for its Tiny Treasures Christmas show and sale, The Independent & Free Press is run- ning a series giving readers a glimpse of the most valuable treasure of all the artists. This is the fourth story of the series. Jewelry is inherently personal. Naomi Assenheim, Janice A. Smith, and Sue Wakefield take it further in creating one-of- a-kind pieces that suggest the personality of the creator while reflecting the uniqueness of the purchaser. Assenheim works with rare precious and semi-precious gemstones that are often cho- sen for their healing properties. Designing a piece is an intuitive process that brings out the spirit of the stone. Integral to her work is connecting people with the stone that is right for them. If someone brings her a stone, Assenheim will create an appropriate setting for it and the person. She and her husband, Emiliano Vargos-Lopez, mine and cut many of the gems themselves. She sets them in hand-forged metal as rings, pen- dants, earrings, and bracelets. Smith is a longtime jeweler and silver- smith at the Mill whose work includes limit- ed production handmade jewelry and unique pieces. She can be pleased with a design but even more pleased when some- one buys it for themselves. It completes a cycle. For Tiny Treasures, Smith will feature River Pieces, a series with personal messages that speak to each persons journey on the river of life. Besides creating jewelry, Wakefield expresses her art through painting and sculpture. Her work grows with her life experiences. She loves the contrast of using different metals and textures in a piece. Wakefield is able to connect to a client to create something that specifically reflects the clients life/character. She is enthusiastic about the opportunity the Mill and Tiny Treasures gives to speak to people about art. Tiny Treasures runs November 16- Christmas. The Williams Mill Gallery is open Wednesday through Sunday, noon to 5 pm. Studios open: Fridays and Saturdays, noon to 5 p.m. For more information: 905- 873-8203, www.williamsmill.com ROSALEEN EGAN GARNEAU Special to The IFP Janice A.
