The event is hosted by Halton Peel Woodlands and Wildlife Stewardship (HPWWS), which pro- motes urban forest education and public tree planting event. In the first phase of this project an area around the eastern stormwater pond will be planted with trees and shrubs beneficial to wildlife. In addi- tion, an educational sign will be installed offering the public com- mentary on the importance of urban trees and a suggested planting list. This project is part of a larger ini- tiative in the park to add more play- grounds, a splash pad, walking trails, garden plots, and additional trees. Planting time is 9 a.m. Community partners in the pro- ject are: Credit River Anglers Associa- tion donation of trees (green ash, silver maple, Eastern white pine, white spruce and red oak). Sheridan Nurseries donation of red-osier dog- woods which are native shrubs particularly useful for birds and animals. Wal-Mart Canada fundraising assistance Town of Halton Hills supply of planti- ng materials (compost/ wood chip mulch), funding, and logistical support. Friends of the Old Seed House Garden financial and volunteer assistance Credit Valley Conservation Authority staff will also be on hand and have made their work trailer available for addi- tional shovels and equipment. In addition, local high school students will be volunteering on planting day. All members of the public are invited to bring a shovel and lend a hand too. Refreshments will be available. This project is being im- p l e m e n t e d and managed by the HPWWS, an Ontario Ministry of N a t u r a l R e s o u r c e s Stewardship Council which is primarily staffed with volunteers and has a man- date to promote good stewardship practices on private and public land.
