Hopefully you have picked yours up. May Hoare hand delivered all the ones to Birchway, so hope- fully you enjoyed a little visit with her when she was out and about. She tells me it is good therapy for her. The current format is hopefully more pro- fessional, and easier to read. Dont forget Acton and Georgetown will still have their own names on the front cover, and we will be holding a competition for suggestions for a catchy banner name that we can share. There should be slips of paper at the front desk for this purpose showing the Acton Seniors Recreation Centre with a space above or below for the new name. A team will go through the suggestions and recommend the best. We are looking for some- thing that suggests an exciting and exuberant cen- tre with lots of ideas and programs for people of all ages (including the soon-to-be 55+ baby boomers). The Oktoberfest social dinner was a great suc- cess and everyone raved about the German pota- toes. The recipe was Loretta Ivanyshyns old fami- ly recipe. Several people spent the day before preparing the food. The Fergus Scottish Country Dancers enter- tained us with music and their light dance steps. It was lovely to see the kilts and skirts swinging to the music. Joan Morris, Sue Robbins and Irene Breen won door prizes and 50/50 was won by Pauline Barlow. There were many imaginative costumes and it was very hard to choose the winners, but by volume of applause Eileen Dix was declared the winner. She was dressed as a glamorous high society lady complete with a long cigarette holder. Sue and Keith Robbins were second as AC/DC. We will be holding the bimonthly birthday team on Wednesday, Nov. 14 at 2 p.m. This is to celebrate all members birthdays that fall in October and November. Note the day, as the birthday teas are usually on a Tuesday. Dont forget we will be decorating the Christmas tree on Tuesday, Nov. 20 at 1 p.m. and you are invited to bring the grandchildren to help. At 2 p.m. we will have the annual memberships drive and hopefully members who fly south for the winter will renew before they take off. Membership is due by Dec. 31 each year. Any new members on that day (Nov. 20) will pay for the month of December and the following year ($21.75). Our current membership fee is $20 per year. There is a membership form in the latest newsletter, so you can fill it out at your leisure, and bring it to the centre with your cheque. The Halloween Day Rama trip went very well and I hope everyone experienced more treats than tricks. The 50/50 draw was won by Joyce Johnston. Birthday prizes were won by May Nelson, who was celebrating her 90th birthday this month and Hilda Battison her 83rd. (You see age is all a state of mind). Sitting in the lucky seats were Esther Nagy, Donna Rowley, Shirley Beaumont, Tony Calacci and May Nelson. The next trip will be Wednesday, Nov. 28 and there will be no Rama trip in December. If any members of the Georgetown Seniors Centre would like to join the Gals on the Go you would be welcome. We are planning to go to a dinner theatre show at the Guelph Arborteum on Friday, Nov. 30. We will be traveling by school bus and seeing Dont Dress for Dinner. For more information call the Acton Seniors Centre, 519- 853-5951.
