Its no less than the stage adaptation of one of the most celebrated and beloved films of all time. Georgetown Globe Musical Productions brings the classic Broadway musical Singin in the Rain, based on the 1952 MGM film, to the John Elliott Theatre for seven performances only beginning Thursday (tomorrow). The show features such unforgettable songs as Make em Laugh, Good Morning and the show stopping Singin in the Rain complete with real rain onstage. 1920s Hollywood is the setting for this zany, light-hearted romantic comedy about the early days of sound film, when many a movie studio found itself scrambling to salvage the career of its chipmunk-voiced silent picture star. When asked how it will rain on stage, director Alexander Galant simply smiles and replies, with water! Galant is not only an award-winning theatre director but an award-winning filmmaker whos bringing his talents to recreate the old film world of early Hollywood. There are swashbuckling films and comedic tributes to the silent film era, making the show a technically spectacular multi- media production. Deb Tilson, is no stranger to Georgetown audiences, having been on stage as a performer and also in the pit as musical director, the posi- tion which she holds for this show. Tilson teach- es voice, piano and theory at her home in Rockwood. Rounding out the artistic team is Angel Ottema, the Guelph-based choreographer, whos been keeping the cast literally on their toes as she choreographs some of the shows toe-tappin numbers.
