Addressing some concerns in the goaltenders position, the Raiders welcomed back Marc Stuart, who was a standout in Georgetowns play- off run last season and had begun this year with the Syracuse, N.Y. Stars of the Empire Jr. Hockey League. The Dallas, Texas native was joined at Monday nights Raider practice by centre John Seymour of Peterborough, a four-year veteran of the Ontario Hockey Leagues Brampton Battalion. The 6-foot-4, 200-pound seventh- round draft pick of the Los Angeles Kings started his overage OHL year with the Tier II North Bay Skyhawks, netting three goals and eight assists in 10 games. Seymour had three goals and six assists in 47 games dur- ing 2006-07 for the Battalion. Our offensive production has increased this year but when youre scoring five or six goals and still los- ing or only getting one point, well, we dont want to get in those situa- tions any more, said Raiders direc- tor of hockey operations Lonnie Freeman. Sharing playing time with another 20-year-old with Syracuse, Stuart decided to return to Georgetown for his final year of junior eligibility. He had a 7-2-0-1 record for the Stars with a 2.90 goals-against average. Freeman said that the teams other two netminders, Paul Claxton and Jonathon Mc Queen, are both still on the roster. Certainly, goalkeeping wasnt the sole reason behind Georgetowns second loss in four days against the seventh-place Mississauga Chargers on Saturday, a 6-5 shootout decision at Port Credit. The Raiders fell behind 4-1 midway through the sec- ond period before rallying to take a 5-4 lead with six minutes left in reg- ulation, only to have the Chargers equalize on a power play and then win in the shootout. Trevor Branning and Kyle Essery scored twice each for the visitors, with Jeremy Wick adding another. Branning potted the shootout winner Friday night in Milton in what turned out to be a bitterly fought battle with the IceHawks, resulting in several scraps. Paul Yovanic, Marcus Pryde and Mark White tallied in regular time for the visitors. The 14-7-2 Raiders trail front- running Oakville by five points in the OHA Provincial Jr. A Hockey Leagues West Division standings and will host the Blades Saturday at the Alcott Arena beginning at 7:30 p.m. Georgetown defender Chris Borges will have to sit out against his former team when the Raiders visit third-place Brampton on Thursday night due to a two-game suspension incurred against Milton, while team- mate Yovanic will miss the next five games after an aggressor penalty in the IceHawk contest. Freeman said that highly touted centre Andy Bathgate will likely be out a week or two with a left leg injury. With an overall match record of 38-4 this fall, the Rebels earned their berth in the 20- team OFSAA tourney by defeating host Bishop Ryan in Hamilton in the best-of-5 Golden Horseshoe qualifier 25-23, 25-23, 23-25, 25-23 last Friday. Coach Kyle Stewarts squad returns most of the players who experienced a couple of tough losses in the preliminary round of last years provincials, eventually being eliminated on the consolation side of the draw. Middle hitters Millar Galbraith and Chris Pett had strong matches in Hamilton last week and some excellent defensive play was headed up by Devin Rattie, who suffered an ankle injury but hopes to be ready for Fridays OFSAA preliminary round.
