Joining Santa Claus for the parade's 62nd anniversary will be one of the most exciting lineups in the history of the parade of schools, floats, bands, and costumed entertainers representing numerous local businesses, service clubs, and community groups. This years theme is A 'Reel' Christmas at the Movies and the anticipation grows as we hear rumors of some creative and unique entries this year. Once again Mrs. Claus will be leading the Oakville Santa Claus Parade as the Grand Marshall. One lucky child who wins the colouring contest will ride with Mrs. Claus in the beautifully decorated Cinderella carriage throughout the parade route. Children still have time to enter the colouring contest, as the deadline is Nov. 8. Get your entry forms in fast. Contest forms are available online at www.oakvillesanta- clausparade.ca. Its not too late to volunteer with Santa parade Children between ages five and 10 will have the chance to win the seat beside Mrs. Claus, and runner-up will ride in a window in Santa's float. Children ages three and four will have the chance to win a special prize just for their age group. The Santa Claus Parade demonstrates annually the spirit of community. Nestled at the heart of the parade are the numerous volunteers that give their time each year to bring this important tradition to Oakville. Volunteers make the parade possible, says Pam Damoff, chair of the Oakville Santa Claus Parade. Without the people who walk the route as costumed characters or escorts, or assist with Parade mar- shalling and traffic logistics, Parade Day would simply not happen, said Damoff. The parade itself is organ- ized and run by a dedicated group of volunteers whose tireless efforts begin early in the spring and culminates each year on parade day. Information about the various volunteer opportuni- ties can be found online at www.oakvillesantaclauspa- rade.ca. High school students will be eligible to receive volun- teer hours for their participa- tion. Its never too late to be part of this wonderful com- munity tradition. The Santa Claus Parade is always looking for volunteers to assist on parade day to ensure the parade runs smoothly. This year there is a need for additional adult volun- teers to assist with mar- shalling and logistics especially those willing to help man traffic barricades with assistance from police to ensure the safe flow of traffic during the parade. Those interested can e- mail volunteers@oakville- santaclausparade.ca. A meeting for all volunteers will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 10 at Town Hall in the South Atrium. Registration begins at 6:30 p.m. Celebrating its 62nd year, the Oakville Santa Claus Parade is a cherished tradi- tion in our Town. The 2010 parade takes place Saturday, Nov. 20, beginning at 9 a.m. at Lakeshore Road and Reynolds Street, going west on Lakeshore to Kerr Street, north on Kerr and ending at Kerr and Stewart streets.
