- Description
- Little is known of Joseph Oakley. He and his brothers came to Canada, Joseph to Grimsby, Ontario. Joseph had married in London, England and his wife, Frances Mary Dean came with him. The oldest son of Frances and Joseph, Joseph Howard, was born on November 15, 1818 in Grimsby. The family also lived in Waterdown, East Flamborough, before moving to a farm in Trafalgar Township. Their other known children are Amanda, Jane called Jennie, Elizabeth and Sylvester. Other records in this group have more information.
It is thought that Joseph is likely buried in the cemetery plot purchased with this receipt of purchase. - Notes
- Since the receipt is signed by a member of the Munn family, it is possibly a receipt for Munn's Cemetery in Trafalgar Township, on the southeast corner of Dundas and Sixth Line.
- Inscriptions
- Trafalgar August 27, 1828 Recieved from Joseph Oakley two pounds currency, it being full payment for lot number nine at the burying ground on Dundas Street.
