Description
John Dixon came with his father, William, from the Hills of Scotland and Northumberland, arriving in Quebec in April 1816. John came to Trafalgar Township in 1820, first working for Robert Ruxton on a farm with a sawmill, on Lot 6, Concession 6, a farm John eventually owned.

John was one of the first settlers in the north west part of Trafalgar Township, now in Milton, Ontario.

John's marriage to Jane Bell resulted in the large family named below here, and a very successful farm. "Sprucedale" was the family name for the 200 acre home farm on Lot 14, Concession 4, Trafalgar Township. First a log home was built, then a frame house and then in 1861, the beautiful brick house seen in the "Sprucedale Farm" records linked below the photo of Jane here.

The farm had its own shops: blacksmith, carpentry, machinery. Two large windmills and a large bank barn. Machinery and wooden water pumps were manufactured on site.

The Thompson Road house was demolished in 1991. You can view photos of the home taken by the family during the fight to save the historic house by clicking on "Groups of Related Records" "Sprucedale Farm, Dixon Family".
