I was just doing some research on my family tree. I knew my uncle Charlie Gowdyk served in the navy during WWII, but tonight I discovered he served on the HMCS Oakville and was trapped below decks after the ramming of the U-Boat. He almost drowned during the desperate attempt to keep the ship afloat, before being freed from his would be watery grave.
