Description
Someone has written 1912 as the date on this image but this photograph is actually a copy of a photograph in a book in which the caption says, "Palermo about 1900".

The book was privately published by Herbert V. Book in 1963. It is simply titled "Family Records compiled by Herbert V. Book". The Library of Congress Number is 63-15463, author in the LC citation is Herbert V. Book, place of publication is possibly Detroit. 360 p. ill. CS71 B7247 1963.

The book caption provides the following information, with my further notes in brackets. "Looking North (from the Dundas Highway). From the right foreground: Old Foundry (this large brick building was the John Addison Smith Foundry which manufactured agricultural implements); Lyman Thurston's blacksmith shop; Mrs. Quinn's store and post office. Far distance: Old Temperance Hall. The wagon wheel on left is in front of Dunc Peer's blacksmith shop."

A link to a 1957 The Canadian Champion newspaper article with a photograph of the foundry staff, and the same but clearer photo in the Nelson Women's Institute Tweedsmuir Book are provided for your further information.
