John Hunter was the son of Joseph & Jane Hunter who emigrated with their family abt. 1836 from Co. Monaghan, Ireland. John was born 14 July 1825 in Co. Monaghan, the youngest of 14 children. John was married first to Amelia Lundy, second to Bythia Lester. John and Amelia had the following children: Francis Hunter Isabella E. Hunter Jane Amelia Hunter Sarah Ann Hunter John H. Hunter Annabella Hunter Mary Hunter Sophia Adeline Hunter Margaret Hunter
