- Description
- Ethel and Eckhardt were part of a double wedding on this day. Ethel's sister Mary Grace married Harry Leedham at the same time.
Eckhardt was the youngest son of Elizabeth and George Wettlaufer who had moved their family to farm in Trafalgar Township in about 1896. Their farm was called "Fairview", located near the "Back Concession" aka "2nd Concession" or today, Burnhamthorpe Road and Highway 25, now called Bronte Road.
Eckhardt's older brothers carried on with the farm, while Eckhardt moved south to property in Palermo with his father and sisters. (His mother died in 1915.)
Ethel's family lived further south, closer to Lake Ontario in the Merton/Bronte area. Her father was William Giles, her mother was Janet (nee Hallet) Giles.
After the amalgamation of the Methodist and United churches, Ethel's family became involved in the Palermo United Church, just north of Merton.
