On Monday, Nov. 15, from 5-8 p.m., Chapters at Dorval Crossing is hosting a FUNdraiser for the Oakville Literacy Council. With every purchase of in-store items during the event, Chapters will make a donation equal to 10 per cent of the pur- chase to support Oakvilles community- based adult literacy program. This is such an easy way for people to support literacy, said Bernie Martenson, president of the Oakville Literacy Council. All you have to do is shop, and Chapters will donate on your behalf. Chapters has been a great support, and a perfect partner for a literacy organization to have. The Oakville Literacy Council is a vol- unteer-based charitable organization dedi- cated to helping adults improve their liter- acy skills. It offers free, one-on-one tutor- ing in reading, writing, and basic math. Over the last two years the program has doubled in size, serving 58 people in 2008, 85 in 2009, and a forecasted 100 in 2010. Funds raised at Chapters will help sup- port this increased activity. A story time for children will be held at 5:15 p.m., and three authors will read from their books throughout the evening Maureen Jennings, the author behind the Murdoch Mysteries, will read at 6 p.m.; Vicki Delany, mystery/suspense author of Negative Image will appear at 6:30 p.m.; and Genesis of the Hunter writer Joshua Martyr will read at 7:20 p.m. To contribute to the fundraiser, shop- pers should register upon arrival, which will also enter their name in a door prize draw.
